Spring 2020 programs have been announced at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.

The Washington Ballet's beloved production of The Nutcracker returns to THEARC Theater November 23-24 and at the historic Warner Theatre November 30-December 29, 2019. Set to Tchaikovsky's magical score, this celebrated holiday favorite has become the signature Nutcracker in our nation's capital. With 40 performances and special events for families and military personnel, 45,000 patrons will enjoy The Nutcracker this season.

Justin Sayre's camp-horror-soap-opera, twelve-episode serial RAVENSWOOD MANOR will take the Celebration Theatre stage beginning October 17, 2019 for a six-week run. The University of Hawai'i at Mānoa's Department of Theatre and Dance and Kennedy Theatre will be hosting a celebration of the life and career of Terence a?oeTerrya?? Knapp on Saturday, October 19, 2019. Doors will open at 5:00pm, participants will be welcome to visit with one another on the upper lanai; the formal Celebration will begin at 5:30pm in the Kennedy Theatre auditorium. The Sleeping Beauty Soiree - a fundraiser hosted by the Women's Committee of The Washington Ballet - raised $140,000 the evening of Friday, February 8 to benefit the company's artistic programs. Over 250 guests were transported through a magical forest and into Princess Aurora's 16th birthday celebration at the Homer Building in downtown Washington, D.C. The enchanted world of The Sleeping Beauty complete with heralding trumpeters, dueling knights, courtiers, singers from the Washington Revels and costumed dancers from The Washington Ballet provided a medieval backdrop that paired with a gourmet buffet, signature cocktails, and dancing.

The Washington Ballet will debut its full length version of the breathtakingly iconic ballet The Sleeping Beauty February 27-March 3, 2019 at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Set to Tchaikovsky's enchanting score, this fairy tale of true love that conquers all and the power of good over evil comes to life through the beauty of classical dance, with Princess Aurora, her dashing Prince and other quintessential storybook characters.

Theatre Under The Stars today announced the six shows that will be offered in their 2019/20 season at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts: A Chorus Line, Spring Awakening, Elf - The Musical, Disney's Newsies, the premiere of the new musical Pure Country, and the national tour of the Tony Award® winner for Best Revival of a Musical, Once On This Island.

As previously reported, actress and director Penny Marshall has passed away at the age of 75, due to complications with diabetes.

Last night, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's 60th Anniversary holiday season at New York City Center kicked off with a star-studded Opening Night Gala Benefit performance and party led by Artistic Director Robert Battle, with iconic film stars Angela Bassett and Cicely Tyson as honorary chairs. Prudential Financial received the Ailey Legacy Honor for their generous support and commitment to Ailey, especially its education and community programs. New York Stage and Film is thrilled to announce that its annual Winter Gala will honor playwright and Emmy award-winning actress Patricia Wettig (F2M, 'Brothers and Sisters,' 'thirtysomething') and Executive Producer/director/actor Ken Olin ('This Is Us,' 'Alias,' 'Brothers & Sisters,' 'thirtysomething'), and, in recognition for her years of dedication to New York Stage and Film, Artistic Director Johanna Pfaelzer, who is stepping down from her post at the end of the 2019 Powerhouse Summer Season.

Prolific actor Reno Roop passed away Friday morning August 31 at his home in New York. He was 80. The cause of death was Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia.

The fourth annual GI Film Festival San Diego is getting ready to roll from Tuesday, Sept. 25 through Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018. Organizers have once again curated a film lineup to feature the untold and underrepresented stories of America's military through film. The six-day San Diego military film festival features 34 films, including nine world premieres and five West Coast premieres, as well as several screenings, filmmaker appearances, and panel discussions. GI Film Festival San Diego attendees have opportunities to watch the films, meet filmmakers and film subjects, and have conversations to tackle topics that are usually unspoken.

The Ensemble Theatre celebrated its 2018 Celebrity Black Tie Gala - Elevating the Arts! at the Hilton Americas-Houston, Saturday, August 18, 2018. Lead sponsors: H-E-B; Shell, BP America, Inc, United, Bracewell LLP, Frost Bank, Andrea and Jarvis Hollingsworth, Wendy and Vince Armstrong, were joined by a host of devoted corporations and individuals who continue to invest in the advancement of the theatre's mission to enlighten, entertain, and enrich diverse audiences. The Gala serves as the theatre's major fundraiser supporting its annual $2 million operating budget that includes six mainstage season productions, and its educational initiatives directed toward youth. The theatre's board of directors and staff welcomed more than 400 esteemed donors and supporters.

Broadway legend Chita Rivera will be presented with a Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre at the 72nd Annual Tony Awards on June 10, 2018. This award recognizes theatre artists that have made significant contributions to theatre throughout their life.

Live @ Peck Pavilion returns to the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts grounds this summer. The season will run from July 5 through August 25 with each day of the series featuring a different program focus. Optimist Theatre: Shakespeare in the Park returns Peck Pavilion from July 5-21 with their presentation of King Lear featuring local favorite Jim Pickering in the title role. New to Live at Peck this year is Tribute Band Thursday. All events in Peck Pavilion are free and open to the public.
