American Buffalo by Pulitzer Prize winner David Mamet (Glengary Glen Ross) opens at The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre (The Gamm) on November 17. Tyler Dobrowsky (The Rant, Morality Play) directs the play that put Mamet on the map as a major American playwright. Gamm Artistic Director Tony Estrella, Gamm Resident Director Fred Sullivan, Jr. and Gamm regular Marc Dante Mancini play three small time criminals working together to pull off a 'big time' heist and grab their share of the American Dream.

The saying, 'Good things come to those who wait,' could certainly be applied to the world premiere of The Good Swimmer playing at BAM's Fishman Space as part of the Next Wave festival from November 28th-December 1st. Defined as a pop requiem for the youth of the Vietnam War, this collaboration between Heidi Rodewald (music) and Donna Di Novelli (lyrics) directed by Kevin Newbury has been the better part of a decade in the making since the two women began working on the piece at a Eugene O'Neill Theater Center residency and left with three songs based on text from out-of-print lifesaving manuals that would become the foundation of The Good Swimmer -- the title song, 'Red Cross' and 'Double Drowning'.

It is a solid retelling of a classic with enough good elements to warrant seeing it. And it's OF MICE AND MEN. I wouldn't miss that for the world.

Trinity Street Players invites audiences to slow down and admire the old west in their latest production, LONE RIDERS, within the quaint blackbox at the First Austin Baptist Church. This original work, written by Carol Wright Krause and directed by Manuel Zarate, hopefully will survive its first workshop unscathed. Traditionally, during workshop productions, the writing and direction are experimental  - meaning quite possibly audiences can only see this original work in its current form once. During this preliminary malleable phase of any show, daring production companies like Trinity Street Players introduce something that literally has never been seen before. This sense of adventure is linked to the spirit and theme of LONE RIDERS. The intimate cast of players and the wonderful guitar stylings of Walker Lyle, take you on their adventure forcing self-reflection of individuals' motives and point of view.

Let's quickly recap last week's leg of the Race: Hayley and Blair clearly don't like each other, as evidenced by Hayley's ridiculously rambling complaints about Blair not listening; poor Harley & Jonathan can't catch a break and come in last - but it's a non-elimination leg (!!!); Matt and Ashley got engaged; and drag is as entertaining as we always thought. This week clearly has a lot to live up to entertainment-wise. But this is THE AMAZING RACE, so there's no doubt in my mind that they will succeed. Too bad the same can't be said about all the teams...
