Signature Extends Albee's 'Occupant' Due To Ticket Demand

Signature Theatre Company (James Houghton, Founding Artistic Director; Erika Mallin, Executive Director) announced today that their world premiere production of EDWARD ALBEE'S OCCUPANT starring Tony(r) and
Academy Award(r)-winning actress Mercedes Ruehl and two-time Emmy(r) winner and Tony(r) nominee Larry Bryggman sold out its initial 8-week run in three days, one month before performances are scheduled to begin. Directed by Pam MacKinnon, the limited engagement has been extended by popular demand one week from Sunday, June 29th to Sunday, July 6th.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow, Wednesday, April 9th for Signature Theatre Company's (James Houghton, Founding Artistic Director; Erika Mallin, Executive Director) world premiere production of Tony® and Academy Award®-winning actress Mercedes Ruehl and two-time Emmy® winner and Tony® nominee Larry Bryggman in EDWARD ALBEE'S OCCUPANT directed by Pam MacKinnon. Mr. Albee was Signature's 1993-1994 Playwright-in-Residence. EDWARD ALBEE'S OCCUPANT begins performances on May 6, 2008 and continues through June 29 at The Peter Norton Space located at 555 West 42nd Street (between 10th and 11th Avenues). The production will have its official opening on June 5th.
Edward Albee Still Working Hard At 80

Today, March 12th 2008 is Edward Albee's 80th Birthday. At the moment Albee is currently directing a revival of his plays The American Dream and The Sandbox set to open at the Cherry Lane Theater on March 25th. After that he begins rehearsals for Occupant with the Signature Theater Company. Then it's on to the Broadway run of his play Me, Myself and I. Now, according to Michael Riedel of the New York Post, he won't even be getting a vacation. Riedel states that in Albee's next free moment he will be vacationing to Easter Island to begin writing a new play set there called Silence.
