Joan Tower, the Asher Edelman Professor in the Arts at Bard College, is renowned as one of America's most important living composers. The Ford Theatres 2018 Season and the IGNITE @ the FORD! series will commence on Friday, June 1 with Chano Dominguez's Flamenco Sketches, a reimagining of Miles Davis' Kind of Blue, the best-selling jazz album in the world, featuring GRAMMY nominee Chano on piano, Latin GRAMMY-nominated singer Blas Cordoba, and award-winning flamenco dancer Daniel Navarro.

Penobscot Theatre Company will close its 44th subscription series with The Spitfire Grill, staging 14 performances April 26 through May 13, at the historic Bangor Opera House. Based on the popular 1996 film of the same name, this heartwarming musical is a collaboration between librettist and lyricist Fred Alley (Guys on Ice andLumberjacks in Love) and composer James Valcq. The plot follows a young woman with a mysterious past to rural Gilead where she finds more than she thought possible at the best (and only) restaurant in town.

Exploring the fraught intersection of feminism, colonialism, and race that has persisted across centuries and continents, the stirring drama VAZANTE marks the solo directorial debut of Brazilian filmmaker Daniela Thomas.
