Celebrity chef, author and restaurateur Vivian Howard, who previously hosted the award-winning series A CHEF'S LIFE, returns to PBS in a new six-part series, SOMEWHERE SOUTH. San Francisco Opera General Director Matthew Shilvock today announced the Company's 98th season, which opens on September 11, 2020 with an Opening Night Celebration featuring soprano Albina Shagimuratova and tenor Pene Pati in concert with the San Francisco Opera Orchestra conducted by Music Director Designate Eun Sun Kim. Opening Night festivities include San Francisco Opera Guild's Opera Ball, BRAVO! Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced the finalists for the Queensland Premier's Drama Award (QPDA) 2020-21. Artists Anna Loren, Maddie Nixon and Steve Pirie have been selected from the record-breaking field of 221 entries. This marks the largest intake of new dramatic works in the Award's 17-year history, with entries received from every state and territory in Australia.

George Street Playhouse has a new home at the brand new NBPAC (New Brunswick Performing Arts Center) which also serves as the resident home for American Repertory Ballet, Crossroads Theatre Company and the Mason Gross School of the Arts. Found Stages and Dunwoody Nature Center are joining to present the second play in the second annual 'Wine & Reading Series,' Edith Freni's THE HYSTERICALS on Sunday, June 9, 2019. This event, which is part of a series of readings at 2pm on the 2nd Sunday of each month from May through October, will include a meet-and-greet with the featured playwright at receptions with wine and appetizers before and after a reading of their play by Atlanta's most talented professional actors.

Jordan Klepper is not behind a desk in New York City. He's sinking in a boat with environmental protesters in a Louisiana bayou. He's packing moving boxes with one of the nation's first Native American Congresswomen in New Mexico and he's posting bail at the Fulton County Jail. The premiere episode features Klepper getting body-slammed by a vet dealing with PTSD in Texas. In Comedy Central's new docuseries, Klepper leaves the comfort of the studio and embeds on the front lines of America's push for change. Punctuated with his self-deprecating wit and lots of way-harder-than-I-thought reality checks, the all-new immersive documentary series Klepper debuts May 9 at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central.

Helmed by Kristin Clippard in her American Stage directorial debut, "The Roomate" by Jen Silverman opens at American Stage on March 13 through April 7. Dubbed "Breaking Bad meets Grace and Frankie," this breakout 2015 two-person dramedy, emerged from the prestigious Humana Festival of new American plays. In "The Roommate," Sharon (Annie Fitzpatrick) and Robyn (Amy Resnick) are perfectly incompatible roommates that become unlikely friends.

Every February for the past two years, JAG Productions has invited African-American theatre artists to spend a week in White River Junction, Vermont to further the development of a new play or solo performance. Over the course of the one-week residency, three-five projects receive an intensive workshop, constructive feedback, and a staged reading for the public at Briggs Opera House!

As with each passing season, 2018 proved to be another exceptional year for theater not only in Souther California in general but also in Orange County---my home base. This year, the OC finally welcomed the debut of what has become this century's most awarded and most renowned stage musical ever about the Founding Father etched regally on the 10 dollar bill. Meanwhile, So. Cal. enjoyed a powerful surge of new stage works that explored Asian-American experiences, a positive step forward in the presentation of diverse voices we seldom hear from on the stage. A pair of touring musicals---both opening in the O.C. in early 2019---made such an impact in their Los Angeles engagements for me personally that I had to include them in my list, even though I have not 'officially' reviewed the productions for print. With that said, here is my 'Best of 2018' from Orange County and adjacent locales nearby---a mixture of outstanding shows and brilliant performances that made a lasting, memorable imprint in my theatergoing experience this year.

The New York Choral Society (NYCHORAL) will join forces with the Angel Band Project's One Voice Virtual Choir on Monday, November 19, 2018, to perform Ruth Moody's One Voice as part of the opening for the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. NYCHORAL members led by Associate Conductor Michael Ciavaglia will sing alongside sexual violence survivors as well as the Angel Band Project's virtual choir. The opening will take place in the United Nations Trusteeship Council Chambers (on 1st Avenue between E. 42nd and E. 43rd Streets) from 10 am to 12:30 pm, with the performance slotted for 11:05 am.
