Ebony Repertory Theatre announced today that Tony Award-winning actor Roger Robinson died Wednesday, September 26, 2018 in Escondido, California from a complicated heart condition. He was 78.

Odyssey Theatre Ensemble artistic director Ron Sossi directs for an Oct. 20 opening at West L.A.'s Odyssey Theatre, where performances will continue through Dec. 16.

UnsungMusicals Co. announced today its plans for the 2018 season.

The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voted Tuesday night (September 4) to present Honorary Awards to publicist Marvin Levy, composer Lalo Schifrin and actress Cicely Tyson, and the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award to producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall.  The three Oscar® statuettes and Thalberg Award will be presented at the Academy's 10th Annual Governors Awards on Sunday, November 18, at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center®.

Inspired by thinkers like Donna Haraway ("A Cyborg Manifesto") and Rosi Braidotti (The Posthuman), the Posthuman Series continues the legacy of Performance Space New York to defy categorization and broaden the meaning of "performance," through works that simultaneously seek to question and expand the very definition of "human."

The 75 minute  tribute begins with Phyllis Hyman's days with Duke Ellington's "Sophisticated Ladies Medley-A Train, It Don't Mean A Thing, In A Sentimental Mood" to her pivotal vocal performance in Spike Lee's "School Daze" singing "Be One"  to her recording career beginning with Norman Connors singing "Betcha By Golly Wow" to  her favorite songs "What You Won't Do For Love," to "Old Friend" a song she would dedicate to her numerous dear friends who died of AIDS in the late 1980's and early 1990's.

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley launched the cast album for The Four Immigrants: An American Musical Manga at an exclusive release party at OPAL Night Club in Mountain View on Monday. The album features an infectious ragtime and vaudeville score by Bay Area composer/lyricist Min Kahng. Drawn from one of the first ever graphic novels, this comic musical follows four Japanese immigrants through a world of possibility and prejudice in turn-of-the-twentieth-century San Francisco. From surviving the tumultuous earthquake of 1906 to an exhilarating World's Fair, audiences can relive the hit show and listen as the determined quartet pursues the American Dream, despite limited options in the land of opportunity. The Playwrights Foundation, a launchpad for exceptional plays and playwrights announces the lineup for the 2018 Bay Area Playwrights Festival (BAPF) running July 20-29, 2018. The six Playwrights were selected from more than 700 submissions nationally, 85% from outside the bay area, from more than 2 dozen states and Canada - coast to coast a very North American cohort.

The Ladies Foursome was based upon an earlier play by Foster entitled The Foursome, in which four men who are old buddies from college, play 18 holes of golf. Foster shifted the story to feature four women instead of four men, and changed the plot in specific ways to fit his new cast of characters. Ladies Foursome premiered at the Morrisburg Theatre in Montreal, Canada in July of 2014. The show received glowing reviews with many critics claiming that this new Foursome was better than the first. Soon after, the play received an American premiere at the B Street Theatre, and since then has been produced at the Bay Theatre in Baltimore, Theatre Baddeck in Cape Brenton Island, and the Toowoomba Theatre in Canada.

St. Ann's Warehouse will present the U.S. Premiere of The Jungle, the immensely acclaimed Good Chance Theatre co-production with the National Theatre and Young Vic. Currently opening a five-month run at London's Playhouse Theatre on the West End, The Jungle comes to St. Ann's beginning December 4, 2018.

Playwrights Foundation announces the plays and playwrights of the 2018 Bay Area Playwrights Festival (BAPF) running July 20-29, 2018 at Potrero Stage, 1895 18th St in San Francisco. The Artistic Teams for #BAPF2018 features Directors Erik Pearson, Christine Young, Margo Hall, Daniel Banks, Lauren English, and Ken Savage. Dramaturgs joining the teams include Alex Mallory, Maddie Gaw, Lisa Evans, Vidhu Singh, Roweena Mackay, and the Legendary Nakissa Etemad.

Split Second, by Dennis McIntyre, produced by Jonathan T. Peck and directed by Lee J. Kaplan, will open at the IATI Theater, 64 East 4th Street, on June 7, 2018. Four additional performances will take place through Sunday, June 10, 2018. The Saturday and Sunday matinee performances will be followed by Q&A sessions, during which the cast will discuss working on the play and its timely messages with the audience in attendance.
