In the summer of 2016, Samite Mulondo began an artist residency at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ). Since then, Samite has performed musical concerts, mentored students, and taught in campus departments. He returns to the USJ stage with a family-friendly matinee, The Story of Mutoto, on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020 at 1 p.m., followed by an evening concert with his band at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at tickets.usj.edu or 860.231.5555 for $20-$14. Performances will be held in the Bruyette Athenaeum at the University of Saint Joseph, located at 1678 Asylum Ave. in West Hartford, Conn.

The full cast is today announced for the return of Tim Cowbury's The Claim at Shoreditch Town Hall following its debut sell-out run in 2018. Mark Maughan directs Nick Blakeley (A), Tonderai Munyevu (Serge) and Indra Ové (B). The production opens on 20 February, with previews from 18 February and runs until 7 March.

Corrib Theatre presents the West Coast Premiere of Gerard Mannix Flynn's James X, directed by Corrib Artistic Director Gemma Whelan. James X exposes this appalling, Ireland-specific story of institutional abuse and neglect that offers shockingly relevant parallels to the current U.S. child welfare, incarceration and immigration systems practices of turning a blind eye to justice for the nation's most powerless people under its care. Penguin Random House Audio will produce a live audiobook recording of actor David Dean Bottrell's one-man storytelling show, David Dean Bottrell Makes Love (Random House Audio; on sale February 11, 2020). Bottrell's performance features funny and poignant true love stories from his own life as a gay man living in New York and Los Angeles and working in the entertainment industry. The audiobook edition will be recorded over two live performances in January at Dixon Place, combined with additional bonus material recorded in-studio.

The opening track and first single off the new record, Rock Out Tonight, was released Wednesday via Billboard, and sets the scene with heavy guitars and a narrative that evokes the high-drama restlessness of a group of teenagers aimlessly driving around the suburbs in a Ford Taurus. Eric says the song, “is about wanting to be rebellious, but having no idea how to do so.”

Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble has announced the final performance of its 2019-20 Art & Activism Performance Series, WHAT WE CARRIED, a documentary-style danztheatre work created by ensemble-members that brings to life the voices, stories, and struggles of asylum-seekers, featuring text pulled from interviews with local immigrants. The performance is also a collaboration with sculptural artist Jean Parisi, serving as both devised performance and immersive exhibition of her work. WHAT WE CARRIED will play May 8-16, 2020 at Chicago Danztheatre's permanent home, Ebenezer Lutheran Church Auditorium, 1650 W. Foster Ave. in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood. Barn Players production of TITANIC (The Musical) opened this past weekend at the Arts Asylum to full and appreciative audiences. TITANIC is a huge (pardon the play on words) Community Theater undertaking in all ways you might imagine it could be. TITANIC (The Musical) was written by Maury Yeston and Peter Stone. It won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The BARN PLAYERS production directed by Kipp Simmons is similarly complex but in different ways.
