The Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts is once again offering audience members a dazzling, star-packed lineup of amazing shows, memorable concerts, insightful lectures and very special events during the months of March and April.

The Philly POPS announced its 40th Anniversary 2018-19 concert season today. Subscriptions for this celebratory 40th Anniversary Season go on sale at 10 a.m. Moe Septee founded the POPS in November 1979 with a concert at the Academy of Music. Celebrated jazz pianist Peter Nero conducted the POPS from 1979 until 2013.

Catherine Russell and Her Sextet, Pete Zimmer, Jay Leonhart Quintet and Special Guests, Tribute to Marlene VerPlanck, and more lead the coming week at Birdland!

Court Theatre, under the continuing leadership of Charles Newell, Marilyn F. Vitale Artistic Director, announces the extension of All My Sons by Arthur Miller, directed by Charles Newell and featuring Kate Collins, John Judd and Timothy Edward Kane. All My Sons now runs through February 18, 2018 at Court Theatre, 5535 S. The Mingus Dynasty Septet plays often at the Jazz Standard in New York City, one of the top jazz clubs in the country. La Jolla's Athenaeum Library brought them to San Diego for two performances that included a tribute to Charles Mingus's Tijuana Moods album, originally recorded in 1957 and finally released in 1962. The septet, appropriately enough, played first in Tijuana. The following night I was at the TSRI Auditorium near the UCSD campus to see a repeat performance of the all-Mingus program.

Country legends Johnny Lee and Mickey Gilley will be joining forces to co-headline the Urban Cowboy Reunion Tour beginning January 26. The two friends are reuniting for a series of live concert dates throughout 2018.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) announced the line-up today for the 2018 Free Shakespeare in the Park season, continuing a 56-year tradition of free theater in Central Park.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's five-week holiday engagement at New York City Center continues this week with a new production of Tony Award-winning choreographer Twyla Tharp's The Golden Sectionon Wednesday, December 6. The critically-acclaimed work pushes the limits of human physicality as Ailey dancers take on Tharp's daring, driving choreography with breathtaking leaps and finely-honed partnering. Applauded by The New York Times for his leading role in the work, Clifton Brown the virtuoso Ailey dancer who recently returned to the company rises to Ms. Tharp's challenges as if he's been released, and his absorption becomes transporting.

Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre NBT welcomes Roscoe Orman (Sesame Street, The Night Of) in Nambi E. Kelley's play 'Blood,' the first I AM SOUL PLAYWRIGHTS RESIDENT workshop. The show is directed by Elizabeth Van Dyke.

November at Blue Note Hawaii kicks off with one of the most influential saxophonists of our time GRAMMY Award-winner David Sanborn. Next up is a member of jazz royalty Delfeayo Marsalis along with his quintet and rounding out the lineup of international artists is jazz pianist Keiko Matsui. The stellar lineup of local artists is a who's who of Hawaiian music including Ka'imi Hanano'eau and the incomparable Jake Shimabukuro. Mid-month brings George Kahumoku Jr. & Bobby Ingano ft. The first North American tour of the Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of THE COLOR PURPLE begins tonight, October 7, 2017 in Schenectady, New York at Proctors. The tour will have its official opening October 17, 2017 in Baltimore, Maryland at The Hippodrome Theatre.
