
Piano virtuoso Billy Childs and his quartet are coming to the Holland Performing Arts Center Friday, January 26, 2018 at 8:00 PM. Childs is presented as part of Omaha Performing Arts' 1200 Club series sponsored by C & A Industries and Mutual of Omaha. Even Hotels is a hospitality sponsor.

Billy Childs has emerged as one of the foremost American composers of his era. Childs' canon of original compositions and arrangements has garnered him the 2013 Doris Duke Performing Artist Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship (2009), 14 Grammy n ominations, and four Grammy awards, most recently for Best Arrangement, Instrumental & Vocal (featuring Rene?e Fleming and Yo-Yo Ma) in 2015 for "New York Tendaberry."
Born in Los Angeles in 1957, Childs was already proficient at the piano by age 6; he was accepted in USC's Community School for the Performing Arts at age 16, studying music theory and piano with some of the world's most renowned musical scholars. He graduated from USC in 1979 with a degree in composition. Among Childs' early influences: Herbie Hancock, Keith Emerson, Chick Corea and others. He credits classical composers such as Paul Hindemith, Maurice Ravel and Igor Stravinsky for also influencing his love of composition.
The 2017/2018 1200 Club transforms the Holland Performing Arts Center's Suzanne and Walter Scott Recital Hall into a relaxed nightclub setting where patrons can experience performances by nationally and internationally known artists in jazz, blues and comedy. While enjoying the evening's entertainment, audience members may enjoy hors d'oeuvres and cocktails served right to their candle-lit table.
