Birdland Theater welcomed the international music group last week and the audience got so much more than just music.

Choral Artists of Sarasota's 43rd season, 'Carried Away,' opens with Leonard Bernstein's celebrated musical, 'On The Town,' Sunday, November 7, 7 p.m., at Riverview Performing Arts Center, 1 Ram Way, Sarasota. Narrator Kate Alexander joins the Choral Artists singers and soloists Jenny Kim-Godfrey, Michaela Ristaino, McKenzie Pollock, Mark Lubas, Luis González and John Whittlesey in a concert version of this iconic musical.

At long last, the community of Rio Rancho has its own theatre company, with plans for a production of Thornton Wilder's American classic Our Town this fall. I had a brief chat with Mel Sussman, founder of the Rio Rancho Players Community Theatre, about his experience with the arts, his journey from Philadelphia to Rio Rancho, and why Our Town is such an impactful play in particular at this time in American history.

Born on October 11, 1918 in New York City, Robbins was one of the major forces in 20th century performing arts. He received world renown for his choreography for New York City Ballet, where he spent much of his creative life, as well as for his work with American Ballet Theatre, Ballets: U.S.A., and other dance companies around the world. He received equal acclaim for his work as a director and choreographer of Broadway musicals, plays, movies, and television, winning five Tony Awards and two Academy Awards, as well as numerous other honors including the Handel Medallion of the City of New York (1976), the Kennedy Center Honors (1981), and the National Medal of the Arts (1988).

Artistic Director Blake Robison announced Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park's 2020-21 season today, which includes world premieres by Keith Josef Adkins, Deborah Zoe Laufer and Ken Ludwig, along with the U.S. Premiere of David Haig's Pressure.
