The Next Wave Initiative has announced open submissions for Cycle 3 of its scholarship program. Founded by Broadway multi-hyphenate, Douglas Lyons (Parade at City Center, and Chicken and Biscuits,), The Next Wave Initiative is a developmental branch of The Directors Company committed to amplifying future Black voices in the American theatre.

While the series' recurring cast includes Tom Selleck, Bridget Moynahan, Donnie Wahlberg, and more, guest stars have included Audra McDonald, Kelli O'Hara, Joanna Gleason, Adrienne Warren, Jinkx Monsoon, Norm Lewis, Norbert Leo Butz, and more. Today's subject Norm Lewis is probably best known for his rich baritone sound and superb acting in several Broadway musicals. His tour de force performance opposite Audra McDonald in Porgy and Bess is still one of the great modern-day performances.

Some of you might know today's subject Michael Urie from his work on the tv series Ugly Betty but his career as a stage, film and TV actor goes far beyond that one famous TV show. He can currently be seen onstage at Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) in Jane Anger playing the role of William Shakespeare. The production runs through January 8th at STC's Klein Theatre.

Vineyard Theatre and Second Stage Theater have announced the complete cast for Michael R. Jackson’s new musical, WHITE GIRL IN DANGER.

Rising musical theater composers Jaime Lozano and Florencia Cuenca share the premiere of this Mexican musical about the death and disappearance of hundreds of women and girls in Ciudad Juárez, México.

Veteran actor Eugene Lee will join Norm Lewis to star in the 20-week North American tour of Roundabout's 2020 Tony Award-winning Best Revival of the 1982 Pulitzer Prize-winning A Soldier's Play.  

 Broadway Black presents The 2nd Annual Antonyo Awards, which honors Black theatre artists during the 2021-2022 season. The live, in-person ceremony will be held on Monday, October 10 at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem (253 West 125th Street). Awards in 29 competitive categories and five honorary categories will be presented along with performances and guest appearances. 

Casting has been announced for the 11th annual 48Hours in…Harlem”. Harlem9, the producing collective responsible for the OBIE Award-Winning “48Hours in…Harlem”, “48Hours in…El Bronx”, “48Hours in…Detroit”, “48Hours in…Dallas,” and “48Hours in…Holy Ground”, is back in person in Harlem after three years away. 

On August 14, 2022, Broadway says goodbye to two Tony-nominated productions. Tina- The Tina Turner Musical will conclude its run at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre following 27 preview performances and 482 regular performances, and POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive wraps up at the Shubert Theatre following 18 previews and 126 regular performances.

Berkeley Repertory Theatre announced the full cast and creative team for the world premiere musical, Goddess. The musical stage production is conceived and directed by Saheem Ali, music and lyrics by Michael Thurber, and written by Jocelyn Bioh. Previews begin Saturday, August 13, and the show runs through Sunday, September 25.

he season will feature the world premiere of Silver Foxes, a new play by the writing team of “The Golden Girls”, plus the regional premieres of the 2019 Drama Desk nominated musical, Head over Heels and the recent Broadway hit Chicken & Biscuits. Rounding out the 2022-2023 season is the regional premiere of Cruel Intentions: The 90's musical, a co-production with Stage West, and an all-new Broadway Our Way.
