Acting Up Stage Theatre Company is a theatre company in Toronto, dedicated to producing intimate musical theatre productions, while cultivating a new generation of audiences through thought-provoking, contemporary works. The company previously produced the Canadian premiere of Jonathan Larson's tick, tick…BOOM! in 2005 and the Toronto premiere of john & jen in 2006. tick, tick… Boom! originally presented as a 'rock monologue' entitled Boho Days, was performed by composer/lyricist Jonathan Larson as an autobiographical look at his dream of leaving his mark on the musical theater landscape. Larson was working on Boho Days at the same time he was writing the ground-breaking musical RENT, though, of course, his tragic death meant that he did not live to see his dream become a reality.
RENT, the critically acclaimed Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway musical written by Jonathan Larson and directed by Michael Greif that inspired a major motion picture (which was filmed recently in the Bay Area), returns to San Francisco.
