The six Playwrights were selected from more than 700 submissions nationally, 85% from outside the bay area, from more than 2 dozen states and Canada - coast to coast a very North American cohort.

The University of Southern Maine Department of Theatre closes the 2017-2018 season with the upcoming production of "The Importance of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde, directed by Andrew Harris. Opening on Friday, April 20 and running through Sunday, April 29, all performances will take place on the USM Gorham Campus in historic Russell Hall. Special school matinees for grades 6 and up will take place on April 24 and 27 at 10:00 a.m, reservations are required.

Hale Centre Theatre's season continues with the opening of a top-notch revival of Oscar Wilde's endlessly entertaining comedy The Importance of Being Earnest.  Directed by Cambrian James, this sparkling comedy which the London Telegraph calls "the most perfect comedy in the English language" plays April 5 through May 12, 2018.  Tickets are $32.00 and are on sale now to the general public. The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under the baton of its newly appointed Chief Conductor Daniele Gatti returns to Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage for two back-to-back concerts in January, marking the first time the orchestra will travel to the United States with Mr. Gatti, who is only the seventh Chief Conductor in the orchestra's 129-year history. For the first concert, on Wednesday, January 17 at 8:00 p.m., the orchestra performs excerpts from Wagner's final opera Parsifal, including the Prelude to Act III and Good FridaySpell, on a program that also features Bruckner's final Symphony No. 9 in D Minor.

Trinity Repertory Company announces the workshop of A Seat at the Table: The Testimony of Fannie Lou Hamer, the new play about the civil rights activist who risked her life to register black voters in the segregated South. The work is penned by nationally-celebrated, multiple award-winning playwright and actress Regina Taylor. The workshop is part of a new partnership between the Brown/Trinity MFA program and Rites and Reason Theatre at Brown University, part of the Department of Africana Studies, which develops innovative theatrical forms rooted in Africana cultural traditions and expressions.
