Zoe Anderson Norris (1860-1914), although little remembered today, was a foremother of modern-day social-justice advocates and confessional bloggers baring souls in print. In millions of published words of fiction and journalism—including in her own bimonthly magazine, The East Side (1909-1914)—she documented desperate immigrant poverty in New York and called for the world to heed and help.

Beginning Monday November 7th, from 7pm, Mint Theater will be streaming the three-camera archival recording (filmed in HD!) of The New Morality by Harold Chapin, directed by Mr. Bank.

Tiempo Muerto is a tragedy in three acts of the Puerto Rican farmer who was drowned by the social system that prevailed forty years ago, at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century. The play by Puerto Rican playwright Manuel Méndez Ballestar tells the story of misery and poverty during the sugarcane era in Puerto Rico, poor jíbaros with nothing to throw into the pot on the stove who focused more on economic needs that were more important than family morality.The family suffers from the policies and social system of the moment.

Joining the previously announced Alex Jennings in Stephen Beresford's The Southbury Child are Holly Atkins, Josh Finan, Jack Greenlees, Jo Herbert, Phoebe Nicholls, Racheal Ofori and Sarah Twomey. Final casting will be announced shortly.

Guildhall Art Gallery is mounting a fascinating new exhibition examining the ways in which visual artists have taken inspiration from the literary arts.  Inspired: Art inspired by theatre, literature and music will explore the relationship between poetry, plays, novels and music with the visual arts.
