National Sawdust continues its fourth season, HEAR IT NEW!, this spring. The organization expands its commitment to the local and national arts scenes through presentations by nationally and internationally acclaimed artists, and expands its mission beyond its physical walls through a new series.

A longtime advocate for music suppressed by the Nazi regime, Polish-Canadian pianist Daniel Wnukowski (vnoo-koff'-skee) makes his New York debut this February as part of a festival dedicated to the music of Galician-Jewish composer Karol Rathaus (1895-1954). Little-known today, Rathaus was a protege of Franz Schreker and built a successful career in Berlin before fleeing in 1932 due to the deteriorating political situation in Germany. He first migrated to Paris, then to London in 1934. He settled in New York in 1938 and joined the music faculty of Queens College two years later as its first professor of composition.

New Philharmonic's immensely popular New Year's Eve program returns to ring in 2019 with three concerts at the McAninch Arts Center (MAC) Monday, Dec. 31, 2018 at 2, 5:30 and 9 p.m.

The holiday season is here at last, and in just days, the world will be spreading yuletide cheer by decking the halls, wrapping the gifts and sipping the eggnog. On Her Shoulders is pleased to present staged readings of three plays by Irish dramatist Teresa Deevy, directed by Kristin Heckler on Tuesday, November 20, 2018. Doors open at 6:45pm for a 7:00pm start with The Play in Context by Melody Brooks, who situates the scripts in their historical time and place, followed by the readings and a post-performance Q&A with refreshments. ZACH's rockin' holiday tradition, A Christmas Carol will return to The Topfer at ZACH for the fifth year November 21-December 30 with exciting new songs and new cast in addition to returning favorites. David Sedaris' ever-irreverent and giddily-cynical Macy's elf Crumpet is back with a new Crumpet, running on The Whisenhunt December 5-December 30. ZACH Theatre's Moody Theatre for Families Series brings back Holiday Heroes this season due to popular demand for two shows, December 8 and 15.

Jack Thorne, the Tony Award-winning book writer of the new Broadway musical, has written the Introduction to a new edition of the Edgar Wallace and Merian C. Cooper novella of King Kong, which has just been released to coincide with the opening of the Broadway musical. Read his full introduction below!

Actors Co-op Theatre Company (Ovation Award-Winner 2017 Best Play, Intimate Theatre for 33 Variations) presents the first show in its 27th Season with the thriller ROPE, written by Patrick Hamilton, directed by Ken Sawyer, produced by Kevin Shewey.  ROPE will preview on Thursday, September 20 at 8pm and will open Friday, September 21 at 8pm and run through Sunday, October 29 at the Actors Co-op Crossley Theatre, 1760 N. As Labor Day quickly approaches, it's time to take a look at all of the upcoming shows hitting Broadway between now and the the end of the year. With thirteen new shows opening between now and then, this season has something for everyone!

For the past several summers, I have attended the Festival of Arts and The Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach. But this year, I also decided to also visit two other art festivals along Laguna Canyon Road rather than spend any time cruising the town as I had done before. The full-day of exploring all the artistic delights on display this year at all three locations left me dazzled by all the talent on display, while wishing I had lot of extra income to purchase and bring home many of the awe-inspiring items that caught my fancy. But the real highlight of the day was viewing the abundance of 'local color' on display in this summer's 'Under the Sun' themed Pageant of the Masters.

To present the world premiere of a re-discovered play written by Great War veteran and poet Robert Graves in the centenary year of the First World War is something of a coup for the tiny Finborough Theatre. But It Still Goes On is an exploration of familial and romantic  relationships played out in a society still reeling from the effects of the war. It features lust, infidelity, repressed homosexuality and mental illness.

In a production commissioned by the Finborough Theatre, a world premiere from the author of Goodbye To All That and I Claudius, Robert Graves' "post-catastrophic comedy", But It Still Goes On, directed by Fidelis Morgan, opens at the Finborough Theatre for a four-week limited season today, 10 July 2018 (Press Nights: Thursday, 12 July 2018 and Friday, 13 July 2018 at 7.30pm) as part of the Finborough Theatre's THEGREATWAR100 series commemorating the centenary of the First World War.
