Beloved Broadway production supervisor Arthur P. Siccardi has passed away at 89. Arthur P., II was one of the best-loved figures in the American theater, with a distinguished career as a production supervisor that spanned five decades working with the biggest stars, directors and producers on some of the best-known shows in Broadway history.

The Park Theatre in Union City, a 1300+ seat house owned by the Archdiocese of Newark, was built in 1931 and had for many years been an active performing arts venue, made famous by the Passion Play. In recent years it had fallen into disuse and in need of restoration.

Bill Solly, accomplished composer, lyricist and author peacefully passed away in his home Wednesday, April 8th. Born in 1931 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Solly graduated from McMaster University in 1953 and pioneered the musical theatre division at the Banff School of Fine Arts in Alberta. Living in England for fifteen years, he wrote for many colorful celebrities and had five productions in the West End.

Westport Country Playhouse is postponing its 2020 season until spring 2021, due to the global pandemic. Progressive Theater has announced its 2020 season. The 2nd season opens with 4 performances of THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS, co-produced with The Community Coalition on Race. The musical tells the truth of nine black boys who were ripped from a train in Alabama and accused of rape by two white women in 1931. Hauled to jail without a shred of actual evidence against them, The Scottsboro Boys were rushed through trial procedures, found guilty and sentenced to death. The cast includes Alcides Costa, April L. Barber, Bosa Mora, Brian Fender-Shirley, Donavon Chambers, Dorian Andrews, Jim E. Chandler, Jordan Owens, LeVane Harrington, Manny Milfort, Nasir Roper, Rodney Jackson, and Shawn-Herbert Felton. Performances run February 14th - 16th at The Burgdorff Center for The Performing Arts. Following all performances audience members are encouraged to participate in a post-show discussion.

The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra is currently paving the way for one of downtown Milwaukee's largest redevelopment projects. The MSO is undergoing an $89 million conversion of Milwaukee's former Warner Grand Theater into its new concert hall, which is expected to open fall 2020. As part of this conversion, a rarely-seen construction feat took place yesterday, August 13, 2019, as an original 1931 seven-story cream city brick wall was moved 35 feet towards a city street while remaining fully intact.

Musical Theatre Heritage not only brings OKLAHOMA! to the Kansas City stage, but also to 2019. The musical classic OKLAHOMA! opened on Saturday, June 8 at Crown Center and runs through June 30. The 1943 box-office smash was the first written by the team of Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II. Based on the 1931 play by Lynn Riggs, GREEN GROWS THE LILACS, it is set out to tell the story of Laurey and her two suitors Curly and Jud in Oklahoma before it reached statehood.

Oklahoma! is the first musical written by the team of composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II. The musical is based on Lynn Riggs' 1931 play, Green Grow the Lilacs. Set in farm country outside the town of Claremore, Indian Territory, in 1906, it tells the story of farm girl Laurey Williams and her courtship by two rival suitors, cowboy Curly McLaine and the sinister and frightening farmhand Jud Fry. A secondary romance concerns cowboy Will Parker and his flirtatious fiancee, Ado Annie.
