After a long run production in Niedernhausen in 1995, Sunset Boulevard has returned frequently in many local theatre productions throughout Germany. The stage adaption of Billy Wilder’s film tells the story of Norma Desmond, a glamorous diva and celebrated star during the silent movie era who lives seclusively and forgotten in a luxury villa on Sunset Boulevard. When she meets Joe Gillis by coincidence, an ambitious but unsuccessful screenwriter, she hires him on the spot to review her own script. Very soon, Joe Gillis finds himself trapped in a spiral of feeding his own ambition by founding false hopes.

Following The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre's 25th Silver Anniversary during the 2018/2019 Season, producers have unveiled WOB's upcoming 2019/2020 line-up. In a mesmerizing homage to early Hollywood and the era of silent films, Playful Theatre Productions presents the Tony Award-winning "Sunset Boulevard" at Mercer County Community College's (MCCC's) Kelsey Theatre. Audiences at The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre will once again have the chance to see some of their favorite characters come to life on the stage as the theatre sets sail for laughter as it presents the area premiere of Gilligan's Island - The Musical.
In 2015, The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre added a new holiday production to its Children's Theatre collection with the world premiere of its original musical comedy The Great Elf Adventure. Over the years, many adaptations of holiday stories have appeared on the WOB stage including Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree, Frosty the Snowman, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, and Clara and the Nutcracker Prince. The Great Elf Adventure is based on one of the most popular characters to appear at the theatre, Jingles the Elf.
Glenn Close is set to receive the prestigious Maltin Modern Master Award at the 34th annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival, the festival announced today. Close will be honored on Saturday, February 2nd for her longstanding contributions to the film industry, most recently gracing the silver screen in Sony Pictures Classics' The Wife. Leonard Maltin will return for his 28th year to moderate the evening.
