Richard Strauss and Oscar Wilde's opera portrays the Judean princess Salome, stepdaughter of tetrarch Herod Antipas, as she becomes dangerously fixated on the imprisoned prophet John the Baptist. When he rejects her, Salome demands his head on a silver platter. The production stars soprano Brenda Rae as Salome, with Chad Shelton as Herod, Michael Kupfer-Radecky as Jochanaan, Jennifer Johnson Cano as Herodias, and Joseph Tancredi as Narraboth, conducted by Benjamin Manis and directed by Bruno Ravella. The opera is performed in German with English subtitles, running approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes with no intermission.
