Jeffrey Hatcher's intimate two-character drama imagines an encounter between Pablo Picasso and Miss Fischer, a German cultural attaché, in a vault beneath Nazi-occupied Paris. Picasso is brought in to authenticate three paintings believed to be his, only to discover they are destined for an exhibition of so-called degenerate art meant for destruction. The confrontation becomes a battle of wit over authenticity, politics and artistic responsibility, while Miss Fischer's own complicated history with Picasso's work emerges. Christophe Peyras stars as Pablo Picasso opposite Ines Kreitlein as Miss Fischer, directed by Greg Loproto.
Theatre33 will present Jeffrey Hatcher's A Picasso, an intimate two-character drama that imagines a gripping encounter between one of the 20th century's most celebrated artists and a woman working within the machinery of Nazi-occupied Paris.
