Seattle Rep Presents PASSENGERS, Opening Next Month

Seattle Rep has announced the cast and creative team behind The 7 Fingers’ Passengers, an acrobatic adventure combining dance, music, and movement in a breathtaking series of vignettes. Set to perform on the Bagley Wright Theater stage September 22 – October 15, 2023, Passengers is directed, written and choreographed by Shana Carroll, co-founding Artistic Director for The 7 Fingers.

Passengers promises to be unlike anything you’ve seen before at Seattle Rep. Single tickets are on sale now online at SeattleRep.org or by calling the Patron Services Office at 206.443.2222.

The 7 Fingers is an arts collective unlike any other. The contemporary company tells stories using death-defying acrobatics with a life-affirming theatricality that is unique to The 7 Fingers. Fascinated by the human condition, The 7 Fingers create performances that celebrate our world, our time, and our humanity.

“When working with [the] cast, we do a lot of basic storytelling and explore the ways we can put it into movement.” says Director, Writer & Choreographer Shana Carroll. “What gesture, move, or trick ‘reads’ as the story or emotional beat? What acrobatic move represents saying goodbye? What juggling move portrays a feeling of paranoia? What hula hoop move captures the giddy excitement of first travel? But mostly we do an enormous amount of improv, with prompts and themes and intentions. Then we look at what we found, what we learned, and start building.”

Throughout the run of this show, Seattle Rep will host a series of events including a Teen Night (October 6, 2023) in partnership with TeenTix, during which teenagers can purchase $5 tickets to experience the show. Additionally, Seattle Rep’s new Artistic Director Dámaso Rodríguez will host meet-and-greets in the lobby at select dates of Passengers.

Review: DISNEY'S THE LITTLE MERMAID at The 5th Avenue Theatre

In these tumultuous theatrical times, it’s of little surprise that The 5th Avenue Theatre would head back under the sea with a remount of “Disney’s The Little Mermaid”. I mean, they just did it back in 2016. But it’s a crowd pleaser and I suspect a bit of a cash sea cow so here we are. But I still contend that there are two shows here. There’s half of a show that has the story and songs from the late great Howard Ashman that we all remember from the movie, and half of a show where we do our best to enjoy a Glenn Slater lyric. But no matter which half of the show you’re faced with, at least we still get the luminous Diana Huey back as Ariel, the titular mermaid.
