EDINBURGH 2026 Review: THE WETNESS, Just The Tonic At The Caves

When you’re at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, you simply need to accept that some shows will be social experiments more than anything else. And it’s incredible what a crowd will do when their belief is suspended. What is The Wetness about? We couldn’t tell you. Rose KB welcomes you to the Wetness Centre. She goes from being very Venus-like after birthing herself from a plastic sheet to turning creature-like, sipping and slurping at the air, pouring water into her and other people’s mouths in an almost ritualistic, inscrutable 45 minutes.
It’s as if a weird sound bath married performance art and produced a child. Water is poured and passed around, binding the audience together and urging them to create a collaborative experience in semi-darkness. It’s visceral and cultish, experimental and obscure. While some bonkers Fringe pieces are not meant to be understood, you can probably make sense of this one if you put your mind to it. Something about the essence of water, its cyclical existence, and the fact that it’s what makes us all alike. For sure.
We’ll never truly know whether the production is actually a big mockery of people’s tendency to join in and pretend to understand in order to fit in, or whether Rose KB actually has a point in celebrating the cycle of water in her own weird way. Regardless, it’s safe to say that The Wetness is unlike anything you’ve ever—and will ever—see in your life. Splashes to splashes, bath to bath.
