Photo Flash: First Look at Theatre Group at SBCC's AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY

The Theatre Group at SBCC continues the 2012-2013 re-opening season with Tracy Letts' Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play, AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY.  October 19-November 3, 2012, directed by Katie Laris, in the beautiful, remodeled Garvin Theatre.

A vanished father, a pill-popping mother and three sisters harboring shady little secrets.  When the large Weston family unexpectedly reunites after Dad disappears, their Oklahoman family homestead explodes in a firestorm of repressed truths and unsettling secrets.  Mix in Violet, the drugged-up, scathingly acidic matriarch, and you've got a major new play that unflinchingly-and uproariously-exposes the dark side of one American Family.

"This original and corrosive black comedy deserves a seat at the dinner table with the great American family plays."  Time Magazine

August: Osage County is a darkly comedic play by Tracy Letts. It was the recipient of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The play premiered at the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago on June 28, 2007, and closed on August 26, 2007. Its Broadway debut was at the Imperial Theater on December 4, 2007 and transferred to the Music Box Theatre on  April 29, 2008. The Broadway show closed on June 28, 2009 after 648 performances and 18 previews.  After a strong run on Broadway in 2007, the Steppenwolf Theatre Company decided to take the show on the road in 2009 and traveled to many locations in the United States to bring further acclaim to the play. In addition to the Broadway and touring production, the play has garnered plenty of accolades and prizes, including the prestigious 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play.

A film production of August: Osage County is being prepared by producers Harvey Weinstein, Steve Traxler and Jean Doumanian. Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts will star as Violet and Barbara.
