SYMPHONIC WORLD CUP to Close Symphony San Jose's Season
Harpist Katherine Siochi joins Symphony San Jose at the California Theatre in downtown San Jose.
The FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) 2026 World Cup will visit Santa Clara County in June. But before any of the globe's greatest soccer players hit the pitch, Symphony San Jose's all-star musicians will showcase a line-up of great international composers.
The final concert of the 2025-26 Season features the Symphony's first performance of a work by Denmark's most prominent composer, Carl Nielsen, as he recounts the ancient myth of the god of the Sun with Helios Overture.
From Argentina, Alberto Ginastera's Harp Concerto brought the harp out from its clichéd angelic past and into the forefront of solo virtuosity. Bringing this fiery work to life is Katherine Siochi, widely recognized as one of the leading harpists of her generation.
Concluding the program is Dmitri Shostakovich's heroic masterpiece, Symphony No. 5, written as a defiant tribute against Stalin's oppressive regime. His greatest symphony remains a beacon of hope for the future of all mankind.
Performances are Saturday, June 6 at 7:30pm and Sunday, June 7 at 2:30pm.
