Scalpel! A Killer Rock Comedy makes its world Premiere. The show is Written & Directed by D'Arcy Drollinger and runs March 30-April 17 at Brava!.

"What I was going for in this one was a summer action blockbuster movie on stage," Drollinger says, "and the fun would be in playing it for real, but trying to do it live."

"If you?re heading into a musical directed by someone who has worked with RuPaul and previously conceived of a show called Shit and Champagne, you can probably be sure of one thing: You won?t be bored. D?Arcy Drollinger?s latest effort, Scalpel! (Shakespeare could have done with more exclamation points in his titles), lampoons both wealth and the relentless pursuit of the beauty standard... If a mystery coupled with plastic surgery and the moneyed Upper East Side scene isn?t enough to whet your appetite, know this: The play employs a fight choreographer, and there will be makeup. Lots of makeup." - Andy Wright, SF Weekly

A five-piece band offers accompaniment on the 18 songs Drollinger has written for the show. Rock is the dominant sound, though electronic, pop, and 1930s pastiche find their way into the score.

"California had its Prop 8, but in the world according to playwright D'Arcy Drollinger, the nation has the differently odious Proposition 1000. If it passes, the federal government will allot a trillion or so dollars for mandated plastic surgery on anyone deemed unattractive. Socialites are turned into assassins, as proponents of the proposition set out to eliminate all opposition. This merry story is told in song, dance, and Matrix -like fight scenes....With book, music, and lyrics by the SF native, now a New Yorker, the show firmly fits into Drollinger's oeuvre of musical mashups of popular culture and theatrical styles." Richard Dodds, Bay Area Reporter.
