AN ILIAD Extends at Berkeley Rep Through 11/18

By:

According to reports from the front lines, standing ovations have dashed all hopes of an armistice. The reasons for the war are almost forgotten, but today it was announced that Greek forces will continue their siege of Troy at the Tony Award-winning Berkeley Repertory Theatre. An Iliad, the stunning new show starring Henry Woronicz, has extended its run due to popular demand. Two performances have been added – at 8 PM on November 15 and at 7 PM on November 18 – but the show must close on November 18.

On the intimate Thrust Stage, an ancient tale comes roaring back to life in a compelling new telling filled with contemporary wit and wisdom. The clash of swords and shields, the broken hearts and broken oaths, the bonds of friendship and family – An Iliad arises on a bare stage, told by an old man who's seen too much. Two-time Obie Award-winner Lisa Peterson directs a visceral new version of this epic that captures the grief and glory of the battle for Troy. A hawk, a dove… An Iliad races through time to become indelibly relevant today.

An Iliad is a co-production of Berkeley Rep and La Jolla Playhouse. The script by Peterson and Tony Award-winner Denis O'Hare is adapted from Robert Fagles' translation of the original.

Tickets start at $35. Savings are available for groups, seniors, students, and anyone under 30 years of age – meaning discounted seats can be obtained for as little as $14.50. Or ask about ticket packages: the best prices are available to those who purchase An Iliad with other plays in Berkeley Rep's season, such as The White Snake from Mary Zimmerman.

The Thrust Stage is located at 2025 Addison Street, near bus lines, bike routes, and parking lots – and only half a block from BART. For tickets or information, call (510) 647-2949 or simply click berkeleyrep.org.
