Fellow Travelers is the Southern California premiere of the opera by composer Gregory Spears and librettist Greg Pierce, based on the 2007 novel by Thomas Mallon. The opera follows Hawkins Fuller and Timothy Laughlin as they navigate a secret romance during the 1950s Lavender Scare and McCarthyism era. Tenor Andy Acosta reprises the role of Timothy Laughlin, with baritone Joseph Lattanzi starring as Hawkins Fuller, alongside soprano Vanessa Becerra as Miss Lightfoot and soprano Amber R. Monroe as Mary Johnson. The production is directed by Kevin Newbury and conducted by San Diego Opera Resident Conductor Bruce Stasyna, with the musicians of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra.
