North Coast Repertory Theatre presents ACID TEST, based on the true story of Ram Dass, spiritual seeker, as he explores his life from the time of being Richard Alpert, a tenured Harvard psychology professor from a wealthy Jewish family, to meeting Timothy Leary and embarking on 377 LSD trips. He shares his adventures of traveling to India to meet his guru, Maharajji, to becoming an international lecturer on 'enlightenment' to his writing a book on conscious aging and having a stroke that paralyzes his right side. With humor and humility he illuminates his search for inner peace and lasting truth and sheds light on a new understanding of aging and death. Join him as he journeys from 'be here now' to 'still here' to 'be love'.
Dance/Theatre Features 5 New Works at Diversionary, 1/27-29

Five local choreographers will each create a new dance work for Diversionary Theatre's special event, Dance/Theatre 2011, with four performances, January 27-29, 2011. The project was conceived by Peter G. Kalivas of The PGK Project in conjunction with Diversionary's Executive & Artistic Director Dan Kirsch. This is the third edition of the project. Dance/Theatre merges theatre and dance audiences while presenting universal stories through dance inspired by productions previously staged by Diversionary. 'Diversionary has a long history of creating new work, and this project is a great way to connect to the dance community,' said Kirsch. 'We're always excited about the imagination the choreographers bring to interpreting a stage work.'

New Village Arts has built quite a reputation for its productions of the work of one of America's greatest dramatists, Sam Shepard. To celebrate Season 10, NVA presents a Shepard favorite. SIMPATICO blends all of Shepard's trademarks with an unbelievable sense of humor in a film-noir style. The plot deals with a horse-racing scheme run amuck and follows two former best friends through blackmail, intrigue, betrayal and redemption and includes bourbon, Buicks and a Kentucky Derby dress. Equity actor Mike Sears (Carter) and NVA Ensemble Member Manny Fernandes (Vinnie) bring the two friends to life and are joined by NVA Ensemble Member Jack Missett (Simms), Kelly Iversen (Kelly), Terri Park (Rosie) and Kim Strassburger (Cecilia). Watch unbelievable actors tackle extreme situations under the direction of award-winning director and NVA Ensemble Member Lisa Berger, known for her ability to take edgy stories and tell them with compassion, humanity and humor. SIMPATICO will be playing at New Village Arts Theatre (2787 State Street, Carlsbad Village) from March 2 - 27, 2011. The official opening night is March 5 at 8 PM. Last week, Artistic Director Sean Murray and Executive Director Bill Schmidt announced Cygnet Theatre's 2011/2012 Season, with a teaser of an edgy, modern play still under negotiations for the January, February slot. Cygnet Theatre can now officially announce the Southern West Coast Premiere of Martin McDonagh's A BEHANDING IN SPOKANE running January 19th through February 19th of 2012. Cygnet Theatre is located at 4040 Twiggs Street in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park.
