Utah Opera closes its 2025-26 season with Verdi's La traviata, one of the most frequently staged works in the operatic repertoire, running five performances from May 9-17, 2026. The emotionally charged drama follows Violetta Valéry, a glamorous Parisian courtesan who chooses love only to face devastating consequences. Soprano Lydia Katarina stars as Violetta alongside tenor Isaac Hurtado as Alfredo Germont and baritone Weston Hurt as Giorgio Germont, with conductor Robert Tweten leading his 20th production with Utah Opera. Director Garnett Bruce and choreographer Daniel Charon return with their acclaimed 2019 staging, joined by six Utah-based dancers, the Utah Opera Chorus, and members of the Utah Opera Resident Artists program including Julia Holoman, Stephanie Chee, Aaron McKone, and Rodney Sharp II.
