FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Schoolhouse Theater Opens Noël Coward's Private Lives
Croton Falls, NY — The Schoolhouse Theater proudly presents Noël Coward's timeless comedy Private Lives, directed by Artistic Director Owen Thompson, running September 4–20, 2026.
One of the most celebrated comedies ever written, Private Lives has delighted audiences around the world since its premiere in 1930 with its dazzling wit, sophisticated romance, and unforgettable characters.
Amanda and Elyot are divorced, happily remarried... and horrified to discover that they've booked adjoining honeymoon suites at a glamorous hotel on the French Riviera. Before long, old passions reignite, cocktails flow, tempers flare, and their bewildered new spouses are left struggling to keep up as Coward unleashes one of the funniest and most sparkling comedies ever written.
"Private Lives is simply one of the great nights in the theatre," says director Owen Thompson. "It is glamorous, sexy, sophisticated, and laugh-out-loud funny. Noël Coward had an extraordinary gift for writing dialogue that still feels fresh and exhilarating. The wit is dazzling, the characters are irresistible, and beneath all the sparkle is a love story that keeps surprising us. If audiences leave the theatre smiling, laughing, and wishing they could spend another evening with these characters, we'll have done our job."
Set amid the luxury of the French Riviera and fashionable Paris between the wars, Private Lives is packed with razor-sharp banter, sparkling romance, and some of the most memorable comic dialogue ever written. Coward's masterpiece remains one of the crown jewels of the theatrical repertoire.
A superb ensemble brings Coward's unforgettable quartet to life, featuring Patrick Zeller, returning after his acclaimed performance as Valmont in last season's Les Liaisons Dangereuses, as Elyot; Olivia Gilliatt as Amanda; Kate Day Magosci, also returning from Les Liaisons Dangereuses, as Sybil; and Zachary Clark as Victor.
Following three consecutive BroadwayWorld Westchester Award-winning seasons and a sold-out run of Outside Mullingar directed by Producing Director Bram Lewis, The Schoolhouse Theater continues its tradition of presenting exceptional professional theatre with one of the most beloved comedies ever written.
