WPPAC Conservatory Theatre presents THE LARAMIE PROJECT and THE LARAMIE PROJECT TEN YEARS LATER

By:

The White Plains Performing Arts Center (WPPAC) Conservatory Theatre will present The Laramie Project on Friday, April 20 at 8:00pm and Sunday April 22 at 2:00pm and The Laramie Project Ten Years Later: An Epilogue on Saturday April 21 at 8:00pm and Sunday April 22 at 6:00pm. Student performances with structured talk back sessions will be held as follows: Laramie Project on Friday April 20 at 10:00am and the Epilogue on Monday April 23 at 10:00am.

The Laramie Project is a play by Moises Kaufman and the Tectonic Theater Project based on live interviews with residents of Laramie, Wyoming following the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, an openly gay college student. This gruesome murder was condemned nationwide as a hate crime and led to a public outcry and debate regarding hatred, intolerance and the need for acceptance of all members of our society regardless of differences. Ten years later, members of the Tectonic Theatre Company returned to Laramie to determine what if anything had changed in the community.

The two plays encourage us to confront who we are as a society as we witness the residents of Laramie dealing with their anger, guilt and shame. This production features an ensemble of actors ranging in age from teens to adults, further reinforcing the fact that the universal message of these plays speaks to all generations.

The Laramie Project is directed by Jorge Acosta (Tito Merelli in WPPAC’s LEND ME A TENOR) and The Laramie Project Ten Years Later: An Epilogue by Jeremy Quinn, WPPAC Producing Artistic Director.
