Review: SCHOLL - THE BUD OF THE WHITE ROSE [DIE KNOSPE DER WEISSEN ROSE] at Theater Magdeburg
Germany: André Böke • May 24, 2026
With “SCHOLL – The Bud of the White Rose”, Thomas Borchert and Titus Hoffmann have created an exceptionally complex and intellectually ambitious work. Following its world premiere in Fürth, Theater Magdeburg now presents a musically and dramaturgically refined production featuring a sensationally talented young cast. A significant chapter of German history is reimagined here as a highly philosophical coming-of-age drama, exploring the confusions and contradictions of extraordinary young lives under National Socialism.

Review: THE BOYS IN THE BAND at Open Stage
Review: THE BOYS IN THE BAND at Open Stage
Central Pennsylvania: Andrea Stephenson • May 24, 2026
The production of The Boys in the Band at Open Stage may be one of the most emotionally intense performances of the season. The two-hour run time doesn’t feel nearly that long as the actors breathe life into the characters and their stories.
Review: TURANDOT Returns for Another Go-Around at the Met in Classic Zeffirelli
Review: TURANDOT Returns for Another Go-Around at the Met in Classic Zeffirelli Production
Opera: Richard Sasanow • May 24, 2026
I’d say that “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is not a maxim that has ever been used for Puccini’s Chinese-inspired fairytale, TURANDOT, which returned for another go-around at the Met the other day with two alternating casts. (I saw it with Liudmyla Monastyrska, Roberto Alagna and Juliana Grigoryan in the main roles.)
Review: SPAMALOT at Planet Royale
Review: SPAMALOT at Planet Royale
Australia - Perth: David Bravos • May 24, 2026
What has four legs and makes a clip-clop noise as it walks? Why, a king and his servant of course. Monty Python’s SPAMALOT is every bit as absurd as its base material, expanded into a full musical, and exquisitely brought to life by Drew Anthony creative. SPAMALOT has catchy songs, excellent performances, outstanding choreography, and humour from clever to crude. If you’re after a complete night out, grab two halves of a coconut and head to Planet Royale.

Review: DEADLINE at Norwalk Performing Arts Lab
Connecticut: Sean Fallon • May 24, 2026
On Saturday, May 23rd, I had the pleasure of seeing an exciting new show at this promising new theater, DEADLINE, a highly enjoyable modern comedic mystery by Don Zolidis. Directors Ben Brennan and Cheyenne Perez help bring out the best in this stellar ensemble cast of twelve, all of whom have an excellent stage presence and strong stage chemistry with each other! It is clear that this entire cast worked hard preparing for their roles and are having fun delivering them. The positive energy they bring radiates throughout the venue!

Review: PIPPIN - DIE KUNST DES LEBENS at Staatsoperette Dresden
Germany: André Böke • May 24, 2026
For the Staatsoperette Dresden, the German-language premiere of Stephen Schwartz’s classic “Pippin – Die Kunst des Lebens” is a triumph on every level. Visual opulence, sharply played tragicomedy, a thunderously powerful orchestra, choreography overflowing with highlights, and a vocally formidable cast come together here in perfect symbiosis.
