The production of The Boys in the Band at Open Stage may be one of the most emotionally intense performances of the season. The two-hour run time doesn’t feel nearly that long as the actors breathe life into the characters and their stories.
I’d say that “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is not a maxim that has ever been used for Puccini’s Chinese-inspired fairytale, TURANDOT, which returned for another go-around at the Met the other day with two alternating casts. (I saw it with Liudmyla Monastyrska, Roberto Alagna and Juliana Grigoryan in the main roles.)
What has four legs and makes a clip-clop noise as it walks? Why, a king and his servant of course. Monty Python’s SPAMALOT is every bit as absurd as its base material, expanded into a full musical, and exquisitely brought to life by Drew Anthony creative. SPAMALOT has catchy songs, excellent performances, outstanding choreography, and humour from clever to crude. If you’re after a complete night out, grab two halves of a coconut and head to Planet Royale.
MY FAIR LADY on Hale Centre Theatre’s Centre Stage in Sandy is a pleasurably gratifying new exploration of a classic.

On Saturday, May 23rd, I had the pleasure of seeing an exciting new show at this promising new theater, DEADLINE, a highly enjoyable modern comedic mystery by Don Zolidis. Directors Ben Brennan and Cheyenne Perez help bring out the best in this stellar ensemble cast of twelve, all of whom have an excellent stage presence and strong stage chemistry with each other! It is clear that this entire cast worked hard preparing for their roles and are having fun delivering them. The positive energy they bring radiates throughout the venue!

Visual opulence, sharply played tragicomedy, a thunderously powerful orchestra, choreography overflowing with highlights, and a vocally formidable cast come together here in perfect symbiosis.

It is a beautiful reminder of the magic of being in love and the strength that having the love of other people can provide. EVER AFTER at the Phoenix Theatre Company is an exciting and refreshing experience for audience members of all ages.
