The inaugural SouthCoast Jazz Festival is organized by the Bristol Black Collective as part of their Juneteenth Celebration, honoring the national commemoration of the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. The festival is designed to celebrate the region's diverse artistic community through Blues, Soul, and Jazz performance. Headlining the festival at 6:00 p.m. is The MWALIM TRIO, led by MWALIM DaPhunkee Professor, a performer, educator, and Artistic Director of Oversoul Theatre Collective. The trio draws inspiration from artists such as Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Bobby Blue Bland, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, and B.B. King, combining deep musical grooves with original compositions rooted in Black American cultural traditions.
