Playwright Caridad Svich Will Lead Workshops At Wilbury, RISD, and Frequency Writers
Celebrated playwright and teacher Caridad Svich will be in Providence this week as part of the Dramatists Guild Foundation's Traveling Masters program. Caridad's visit will conclude with a talkback following a performance of her new play Red Bike on Saturday, February 23 at The Wilbury Theatre Group.
During this visit, Caridad will lead a workshop for RISD students in story translation at 2pm on Friday, February 22 at the Rhode Island School of Design, followed by a writing workshop with Frequency Writers from 6pm-8pm.
On Saturday, February 23 from 3pm-5:30pm Caridad will lead a playwriting workshop at The Wilbury Theatre Group. This workshop is free and limited to 12 participants. To attend, participants must RSVP here.
In addition, Caridad will be on hand for a brief talkback with the audience following the 7:30pm performance of Red Bike on Saturday, February 23.
"We are over the moon to have Caridad join us in Providence for a few days," said Wilbury Artistic Director Josh Short. "She is a legend among playwrights, and it's an honor to be able to have her here working with our local playwrights. We are very grateful to the Dramatist Guild Foundation's Traveling Masters program for making this opportunity possible."
The Traveling Masters is a nationwide education program providing master classes and events on the craft of writing. Participants interact with luminaries of the Modern Stage, allowing them to learn, ask questions, and develop their talents with input from experts. Previous Masters include eminent writers such as Annie Baker, Pearl Cleage, Melissa James Gibson, Terrence McNally, Dael Orlandersmith, Anne Washburn, and many other award-winning writers.
