Black Nativity is a soul-stirring gospel song play featuring Christmas carols sung in gospel style, brand-new songs for the show, dance performances, and storytelling.
Black Nativity by Langston Hughes premiered Off-Broadway on December 11, 1961, making it one of the first plays staged there by an African American. Langston Hughes (1901-1967) was a poet, playwright, social activist, novelist, and columnist.
For 40 years, PassinArt has produced African American Theatre in Oregon. Its mission is to entertain, educate, and celebrate our culture while highlighting community issues.
