Voting Now Open for the 2016 BroadwayWorld Portland Awards

Voting has opened for the 2016 BroadwayWorld Portland Regional Awards, honoring productions which opened between October 1, 2015 and September 30, 2016. Nominations were completely reader-submitted and after the nomination period ended October 31, BroadwayWorld's local editors proofed the list for eligibility and errors. Voting will run through December 31. Winners will be announced in early January!
OSF Closes its 2016 Season

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival wrapped up the 2016 season on October 30 with the final performances of Great Expectations, Richard II, Twelfth Night and The Yeomen of the Guard. Preparations for the 2017 season and 2017 member ticket sales are already underway. The 2017 opening weekend is February 24-26; preview performances begin February 17.

Celebrated performer and pianist Hershey Felder brings the remarkable story of beloved composer Irving Berlin to The Armory with his highly acclaimed solo-show, Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin. Portland audiences are familiar with Hershey Felder as the adaptor and director ofThe Pianist of Willesden Lane, which played to sold-out houses at The Armory last season and will return in June for a limited engagement. Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin is directed by Trevor Hay, who collaborated with Felder on The Pianist of Willesden Lane, along with a number of other works. Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin opens on the U.S. Bank Main Stage on December 2; preview performances begin November 30; and the production runs through December 30. 
David Sedaris' Hilarious Holiday Hit THE SANTALAND DIARIES Opens in the Ellyn Bye Studio

David Sedaris' hilarious tale of a disgruntled elf working in Macy's holiday wonderland will open at The Armory on December 2 and run through December 24, with preview performances beginning November 26. The Santaland Diaries is directed by Wendy Knox and stars Portland-favorite Darius Pierce as Crumpet, a role he has performed for sold-out houses in the Ellyn Bye Studio for the past four seasons.

Chosen out of several dozen "anti-lynching" plays, most written by African American women between 1916 and 1934, are four one-acts which will be presented through spring of 2017 in the Portland Metro area. In light of recent violent acts against people of color, collaborating professional artists are committed to sharing these plays in ways which elicit greater understanding of yesterday's events relating to today's environment. The intention is to shed light on past atrocities, and to inspire open dialogue about ways in which these historical events affect us today.

OSF Begins Renovation of The Bricks

The next phase of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's campus renovations, part of its multi-year "Access for All" campaign, begins in earnest this week as crews led by Adroit Construction begin work on "the Bricks." The courtyard that is often referred to as the heart of the OSF campus and houses the popular Green Show will be under construction through late spring 2017.
