In this weird presidential campaign, where ideas like building a wall along our southern border and excluding entire groups of people from our country based on their religion are tossed around as if they were reasonable, it's important to look back at our shameful history -- in the hopes that we might avoid repeating it. Jeanne Sakata's HOLD THESE TRUTHS, now playing at Portland Center Stage, gives us that opportunity, and I urge as many people as possible to take it.

A sinister con man and his cohorts have traced the location of a mysterious doll to the apartment of Sam Hendrix (Ryan Clifford) and his blind wife, Susy (Holly Beaman). Not knowing that sewn inside are several grams of heroin, Sam had been persuaded by a strange woman to transport the doll across the border.

FEET., which consists of three devised works based on the fairy tales Bluebeard, The Handless Maiden, and The Red Shoes, plus an adaptation of Euripides' Iphigenia.

Portland Center Stage at The Armory, thanks to a grant from Travel Oregon, is using a story produced for the stage as a lens for audiences to explore Oregon's cultural history guided by a 'Travel the Trail' vacation itinerary. Consisting of six days of outlined destinations and attractions, the itinerary both educates travelers on the Oregon Trail's history and aids in bolstering the tourism industry in Oregon. 
Lakewood Theatre Company Presents the Musical TENDERLOIN

The Lost Treasures Collection, a series of rarely performed musical gems, is back for a seventh season at Lakewood Theatre Company. This year three musicals featuring the theme 'New York, New York' will be presented in a concert/cabaret style. The first offering, Tenderloin will have only 3 performances: Friday, October 21 at 7:00 PM and Saturday, October 22 at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Performances are on Lakewood's Side Door stage at Lakewood Center for the Arts in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

Portland Center Stage at The Armory debuts its new Northwest Stories series with Jeanne Sakata's Hold These Truths, a play inspired by the life of civil rights hero Gordon Hirabayashi, a Seattle native who was posthumously awarded the 2012 Presidential Medal of Freedom. Hold These Truths opens in the Ellyn Bye Studio on October 7, with previews beginning October 1 and performances running through November 13. Hold These Truths will be directed by Jessica Kubzansky, who directed the world premiere at East West Players in Los Angeles. Actor Ryun Yu, who originated the role of Hirabayashi at East West Players, will once again play the role in Portland.

Oregon Children's Theatre Receives Oregon Community Foundation Grant for $73,000

Oregon Children's Theatre is thrilled to announce that it has received a grant from The Oregon Community Foundation Creative Heights Initiative for $73,000. The grant will support the touring production of Tomas and the Library Lady, which will advance OCT's vision of broadening access and inclusion to all communities. The show will be performed first at the Winningstad Theatre in Portland from April 1-23. A subsequent mobile version will follow later in 2017, and will visit rural and underserved communities throughout Oregon.
