CoHo Productions to Present THE FEW This Spring

By:

CoHo Productions with Brandon Woolley and Val Landrum Present THE FEW by Samuel D. Hunter from March 25th - April 16th.

It's 1999 and Y2K panic looms over a small town in northern Idaho where QZ struggles to keep a grassroots newspaper for long-haul truckers going. When Bryan, the paper's founding publisher and QZ's ex-lover, returns after an unexplained four-year absence, he finds the paper full of personal ads from lonely truckers, his former partner full of rage and regret, and his double-wide trailer/office occupied by Matthew, a sensitive young misfit full of misplaced hero-worship. A compact, compassionate play from NW-native and MacArthur genius playwright Samuel D. Hunter about the struggle to keep hope alive, the search for human connection, and the barriers and detours on the way there.

Performances run from March 25th through April 16th. Showtimes are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2 PM. For more information, click here.

Playwright Samuel D. Hunter developed the script for The Few at Portland Center Stage's JAW Festival in 2012 where he met director Brandon Woolley and actor Val Landrum, who now returns to the role of QZ. Born and raised in Moscow, Idaho, Hunter sets his plays with stark realism in the same region. He creates nuanced portraits of characters who are often conservative, religious and lonely, and ultimately in search of faith, family or some American dream. In 2014 (at the age of 33) he was awarded the prestigious MacArthur Genius Fellowship.

For 20 years, CoHo Productions has pioneered artist led co-production as a model of creating theatre. Each season, CoHo solicits scripts and project proposals from Portland's community of theatre professionals and selects three to produce in partnership. The artistic vision is democratic, reflecting the tastes of the Portland theatre community. Seasons are diverse and unpredictable; the quality nurtured and insisted on is excellence.
