MusicaNova Opens 2018 with A DAY WITH PAPA HAYDN Image

MusicaNova Orchestra (MNO) starts 2018 with "A Day With Papa Haydn, the "Day Trilogy" of Morning, Mid-Day, and Evening Symphonies, by Franz Josef Haydn.

The concert has two performances: Saturday, January 27, 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Scottsdale Presbyterian Church, 3421 North Hayden Road at Osborn Road, and Sunday, January 28 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Central United Methodist Church, 1875 North Central Avenue, at Palm Lane in the Phoenix Central Arts District.

Tickets for both concerts are $20 and $15, available online at www.musicanovaaz.com and at the door. Youth under 18 are free with a paid admission.

Haydn's Day Trilogy includes extraordinary depictions of a sunrise, a kaleidoscopic midday, and an evening storm bringing an end to the day.

The works feature solos for all principal players in the orchestra, who in gratitude gave the composer the honorary title "Papa Haydn."

The Day Trilogy also marked the beginning of the Classical era of musical composition, for which Haydn earned the additional title "Father of the Symphony," acknowledging his innovations and mentoring of many composers including Mozart and Beethoven - who quoted Haydn's Evening Symphony in his own Pastoral Symphony.

A world premiere from MNO-ASU Composition Fellow Zachary Bush caps the program.

Remaining concerts in MusicaNova's 2017-18 season include J. S. Bach's tremendous Eastertide oratorio "St. John Passion" on Palm Sunday, March 25; and "Ports of Call,"celebrating music from around the world, on April 22. The St. John Passion concert will feature period instruments and invite the audience to sing along with the hymn-like chorales.

MusicaNova is a professional symphony orchestra founded in the Valley in 2003. MNO also presents its Young Artists Concert and free Community Concert Series at venues in Phoenix and Scottsdale, conducts extensive educational outreach with Valley schools, and sponsors the unique MNO Composition Fellows Program for hands-on mentoring of emerging composers.
MNO Orchestra Concerts are supported by grants from the Arizona Commission on the Arts, the Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture, Scottsdale League for the Arts, and Tempe Arts Grants.
