The dead are meant to stay buried – aren’t they? Last week, Mort lost his wife to a terrible moo shoo pork tragedy. Now, though he’s technically done sitting shiva, he ignores the cries to “move on” from his exasperated family, won’t let anyone touch the unpacked furniture his wife ordered before her passing, and tries to relive the past through his son. Then, the incredible happens and sorrow turns to joy. But this seeming miracle brings with it a whole host of problems. Margulies, playwright of such hits as Collected Stories and Loman Family Picnic, navigates his characters through these conflicts in delightfully unexpected ways, delivering a dark comedy about death that is nonetheless filled with life.
