On October 31st 1999, EgyptAir flight 990 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean shortly after takeoff, killing all 217 people aboard. Almost immediately, controversy swirled around the Relief First Officer, who repeated an Arabic phrase, "Tawakalt ala Allah" ("I rely on God") eleven times as the plane rapidly descended toward the ocean. Was it a tragic accident that the Relief First Officer was trying desperately to fix, or did he deliberately crash the plane as an act of revenge and desperation?
Son of a Dog is comprised entirely of first-hand source material. All dialogue is taken from the Cockpit Voice Recorder of the doomed flight 990, FBI documents, news reports and the compelling interrogation of EgyptAir Captain Mohammed el Badrawi, a 40-year friend of Relief First Officer Gamil el Batouty.
