In RUN BEN RUN, Philadelphia immersive theater company Applied Mechanics joins forces with the Christ Church Preservation Trust for a surreal satire of the stories America tells about itself. The Bens, including Ben Franklin, Ben Affleck, Benedict Arnold, Ben Vereen, Ben Lay and Bad Bunny, have been assembled on a movie set to recreate John Gast's 1872 painting American Progress, but their star Ben Franklin has disappeared. Directed and created by Rebecca Wright with Izzy Sazak, MK Tuomanen, Brett Ashley Robinson, Chris Davis and Anthony Martinez-Briggs, the production unfolds all around its audience using drag, choreography, pastiche and an absurd original script. Christ Church Neighborhood House becomes a movie set complete with rolling prairie, wagon beds, telegraph wires and buffalo heads.
