NYU’s 181 Mercer Street building, opening spring 2023, will become home to a permanent and evolving memorial to the African Grove Theatre, the first Black theater in the country that made history on the corner of Mercer and Bleecker Streets in 1821.

“All were worthy men in their degree.” The Canterbury Tales is a collection of stories written by Geoffrey Chaucer in 1392, all linked by the central narrative of a pilgrimage from the Tabard Inn in Southwark to Thomas A Beckett's shrine in Canterbury Cathedral; it features characters such as the Knight, Pardoner, Miller, and Merchant – though Zadie Smith has chosen to base her new play on one of the few female characters. The Wife of Bath becomes the Wife of Willesden.

Dean Wareham has shared a new single, the kaleidoscopic baroque-pop stunner, “As Much As It Was Worth It.” The track is off his upcoming album, I Have Nothing to Say to the Mayor of L.A which is out next Friday, October 15.  The video for the song was directed by German artist Judith Berndsen and edited by Britta Phillips.
