Piqua Chautauqua Coming to Hance Pavilion This September

Last summer, a group form the Ohio Humanities Council visited Piqua to consider it as one of their Ohio Chautauqua sites for 2017. Unfortunately, they were not selected, but they did encourage the group to develop their own Chautauqua event. Well, give folks from Piqua a challenge and they deliver. So a dedicated committee officially began working on Piqua Chautauqua! The dates for this event will be September 19, 20 & 21, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. and will take place at Hance Pavilion, located in Fountain Park in Piqua.

The Detroit Repertory Theatre Announces New Semester of Actors Workshop

The Detroit Repertory Theatre is pleased to announce the fall/winter semester of the Actors Workshop, beginning with registration on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 9 am at the Detroit Rep Theatre. This semester is made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts with matching funds from the Ways & Means Community Foundation. Anyone over 18 years of age may participate and no prior experience is necessary. Scholarships for low to moderate income students are available. Income verification documents must be provided.

The Detroit Repertory Theatre is excited to announce a first ever neighborhood Arts & Culture Festival at its home in the geographical center of Detroit on Saturday, August 19, 2017 from 10:30 am to 8 pm. This outdoor festival will begin with children's theatre and interactive arts activities, and continue all day, with live music, scenes from the upcoming Detroit Repertory season, community initiatives that include bike repair demonstrations and giveaways for children, gardening demonstrations, a health clinic, a playwriting workshop, dance and yoga classes, a basketball tournament, and more.

For those who didn't have the opportunity to meet the cast of fourteen in East Lynne Theater Company's 'Ah, Wilderness!' at the after-show party at The Merion Inn, another chance is to be had on Friday, August 4 at an after-show Q&A. It's a wonderful opportunity for patrons to ask the actors and director such questions as how characters are created, what goes into selecting a season of plays, and where they have previously worked. Actors in this production have a variety of backgrounds, including performing in regional theater, film and on Broadway, and are ages 12 on up.

National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $82 million to fund local arts projects across the country in the NEA's second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2017. Included in this announcement is an Art Works award of $10,000 to support the Actors' Workshop at the Detroit Repertory Theatre.

Chicago Folks Operetta (CFO) is proud to announce its 2017 season titled “War and Remembrance.” Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the United States' entry into World War I, the season includes the fully staged Chicago premiere of Kurt Weill's anti-war operetta Johnny Johnson, June 24 – July 9, “Kurt Weill and Paul Green: The Story Behind Johnny Johnson,” a lecture with performances featuring Weill Scholar Tim Carter, May 24 and the CFO premiere of a concert called Operetta and The Great War, June 28 and 29.
