The Astoria Performing Arts Center has announced Willy Russell's (Educating Rita and Shirley Valentine) BLOOD BROTHERS, musical staging by Christine O'Grady, musical direction by Julianne B. Merrill, and directed by Tom Wojtunik. BLOOD BROTHERS will play a limited engagement at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church (30-44 Crescent St, Astoria, NY 11102. Entrance on 30th Road.) The world premiere in June 2013 of Manchester Sound: The Massacre, in which the Peterloo Massacre of 1819 clashes with the city's second Summer of Love in 1989, directed by Paul Jepson and written by Polly Wiseman; a revival for autumn 2013 of Educating Rita, Willy Russell's marvellous heart-warming comedy; Wanted! Robin Hood, a new adaptation for Christmas 2013 of the classic Robin Hood story by Charles Way, directed by Amy Leach; and the first regional production of Anya Reiss's contemporary translation of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull for spring 2014 are the next four productions from Manchester's Library Theatre Company, the company's final programme under the Library Theatre Company banner prior to the Library's move with Cornerhouse to HOME.

Willy Russell's acclaimed West End musical BLOOD BROTHERS will be produced by Pieter Toerien and Eric Abraham for Theatre on the Bay and the Fugard Theatre. It is set to open at the Theatre on the Bay in September 2013, before transferring to Montecasino Theatre in Johannesburg in November. The production will then return to Cape Town and play at the Fugard Theatre from early February 2014.

Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) will host its annual Gala at the Museum of the Moving Image, 36-01 35th Avenue, Astoria NY, on Thursday, March 14, 2013. For their extraordinary service to the community and their support of the arts, APAC will be honoring Assembly Member Aravella Simotas and Donna Finn, Principal of the Frank Sinatra School for the Performing Arts. The evening will include a cocktail reception catered by The Astor Room, an opportunity to explore the museum, and a special performance directed by APAC Artistic Director Tom Wojtunik. Tickets are currently on sale at apacny.org. APAC's next show, the musical Blood Brothers, with book, music, and lyrics by Willy Russell, directed by Tom Wojtunik will open at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church on May 2, 2013.
Renaissance Theaterworks to Hold DRESS FOR SUCCESS Clothing Drive, 1/18-2/10

Renaissance Theaterworks (RTW) is hosting a Dress for Success clothing drive during the run of their show EDUCATING RITA, a comedy by Willy Russell. Russell's play triggered a conversation that ultimately brought RTW, the YWCA and the W Girls together. The drive will run along with the production, January 18 - February 10, 2013, at the Studio Theatre, Broadway Theatre Center (Milwaukee).

I always love when a random show pops up on the community theatre circuit. It breathes new life into a scene that may run the same show too many times. Some would probably consider BroadHollow Theatre Company's presentation of Willy Russell's Tony Award winning play Shirley Valentine a risk, but they pulled it off excellently.

Shirley Valentine is a witty and insightful story of a middle-aged working class Liverpool housewife who is transformed by a surprise holiday in the Greek islands. A Laurence Olivier Award winner for Best New Comedy in 1988 and Tony Award nominee for Best Play, the one-woman play stars Footlight Award winner Heather Hawkins. Shirley Valentine runs from January 23 - February 16, 2013 at ArtsWest Playhouse and Gallery in West Seattle.

Falcon Theatre is proud to present Shirley Valentine written by Willy Russell and directed by Andrew Barnicle, the fourth production of the Falcon Theatre's 2012-2013 Subscription Season. This critically acclaimed Tony-nominated one-woman show stars DeeDee Rescher, who is best known for her comedy work on screen in Ferris Bueller's Day Off and King of Queens, but was last seen on the Falcon stage in Garry Marshall's own Everybody Say "Cheese!" in 2009.
