Quick Silver Theater Co Hosts Fourth Annual Playwrights Of Color Summit

QSTC's Playwrights of Color Summit (POCS) is a week-long residency that allows previously unproduced playwrights an opportunity to work exclusively on their plays with all resources, stipends, travel and room & board provided by QSTC. The week's work will culminate in staged readings of four finalists' plays. Founder Tyrone Mitchell Henderson says, "This year we will accentuate the voices of four female solo artists whose work sheds light on self-worth, communication, love, identity and growing as an artist. It is so fulfilling to bring these new works to my home town."

Geva Theatre continues its 2019 run of debuts (Brent Askari's Hard Cell opened earlier this month) with a world premiere that is witty, heartfelt, self-aware, and does a full autopsy on the dynamics of the modern father-daughter relationship. Lila Rose Kaplan's The Magician's Daughter is a masterful new work from a playwright with a unique voice, and its world premiere couldn't be timelier.

Geva Theatre Center's 2018-2019 Fielding Studio Series continues with the world premiere of The Magician's Daughter, written by Lila Rose Kaplan and directed by Shelley Butler. This production marks the second world premiere of the season, following hot on the heels of the world premiere of Brent Askari's Hard Cell - also premiering in January. The Magician's Daughter begins performances on January 24 and runs in the Fielding Stage through February 10.

The Billie Holiday Theatre at RestorationART, in association with Kenny Leon's True Colors Theatre Company, is presenting Colman Domingo's Dot under the direction of Tony Award-winning director Kenny Leon (American Son currently on Broadway starring Kerry Washington, A Raisin in the Sun and August Wilson's Fences) and starring Emmy Award-winning Billie Holiday Theatre alumna Denise Burse ('Black Mirror,' Tyler Perry's 'House of Payne') as Dotty. EAG is a performing arts charity and membership organization that has, since 1923, offered emergency assistance and career support to local performers in need regardless of faith, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, physical ability, or language. Open Stage is a part of EAG's ongoing effort to find ways to support New York's performing arts community. Understanding how challenging it is for emerging theatre companies to find affordable space for creating work, EAG is proud to offer this space grant. Through this program, Quick Silver Theater Company (QST) will receive six weeks of free time in Episcopal Actors' Guild (EAG) historic theatre space at 1 East 29th Street NYC. With this time, QST will be able to rehearse and present their developmental work entitled, 'Albino Deer'. The grant will culminate in 5 performances.
