Lara Downes and Ulysses Quartet Announced as Part of GatherNYC

The revolutionary Sunday morning concert series GatherNYC celebrates its 50th concert in a span of just two years with an appearance by pianist and innovator Lara Downes on Sunday, March 15. GatherNYC's ambitious programming features world-class performers, community building and spiritual nourishment. This concert also marks the kickoff of its spring season, to continue weekly on Sunday mornings through May 31.

Commissioned Artists Announced by Park Avenue Armory for 100 YEARS | 100 WOMEN INITIATIVE

At its fourth annual a?oeCulture in a Changing Americaa?? symposium on Saturday, Park Avenue Armory, together with lead partner National Black Theatre and nine additional   New York City-based cultural institutions, announced the lead group of artists they commissioned as part of the 100 Years | 100 Women initiative. In addition to the Armory and National Black Theatre, the commissioning institutions are : Apollo Theater; The Julliard School; La MaMa Experimental Theatre Company; The Laundromat Project; The Metropolitan Museum of Art; Museum of the Moving Image; National Sawdust; New York University (Department of Photography and Imaging, Tisch School of the Arts; Office of Global Inclusion, Diversity and Strategic Innovation; and Institute of African American Affairs & Center for Black Visual Culture); and Urban Bush Women.

WARRIORS DON'T CRY Comes to the Sheen Center's Loreto Theater

TheaterWorksUSA and The Sheen Center for Thought & Culture will present the New York premiere of Warriors Don't Cry on January 31 and February 1 at the Sheen Center's Loreto Theater (18 Bleecker St). Rosalind Brown, Michael Michele Lynch and More Announced in Casting of LEAVING THE BLUES at The Flea Theater

Casting has been announced for the upcoming New York City premiere of Leaving the Blues, a new play by Jewelle Gomez, directed by Mark Finley. Rosalind Brown (original Broadway productions of Footloose and One Mo' Time) will play the lead role of Alberta Hunter, the great American jazz singer and songwriter. The cast also features Michael Michele Lynch, Joy Suddath, Cooper Sutton, Benjamin Mapp, Ameerah Briggs, Tsebiyah Mishael Derry and Erik Ransom.

Joe's Pub Releases Schedule for Showcases Coinciding with APAP|NYC 2020 and Under the Radar Festival

In January 2020, Joe's Pub presents its annual slate of showcases coinciding with APAP|NYC 2020, the yearly Association of Performing Artists Presenters conference drawing presenters from around the world, January 10-14. The month will also include the fifth installment of Under the Radar + Joe's Pub: In Concert, a collaborative series highlighting multidisciplinary artists at the intersection of music and theater during The Public Theater's innovative Under the Radar Festival, January 8-19.

Japan Society Presents THE UNKNOWN DANCER IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD At Under The Radar 2019

Japan Society proudly presents The Unknown Dancer in the Neighborhood, as part of the Society's 2019-2020 Performing Arts Season and The Public Theater's Under the Radar Festival.  This contemporary dance theater piece is written and directed by one of Japan's most acclaimed rising young playwright-directors, Suguru Yamamoto, of the theater collective HANCHU-YUEI, and performed by dancer/choreographer Wataru Kitao.  

Suzanne Bocanegra Develops New Work At UCLA's Center for the Art of Performance

UCLA's Center of the Art of Performance's Artist Residency Program provides local and national artists creative time and necessary space for the development of new work. Each year CAP UCLA welcomes a new cohort and offers resources, time, connections and more to their process of bringing an idea to the stage.   Suzanne Bocanegra, one of this season's Artists In Residence, will workshop and develop her piece, Honor: An Artist Lecture the week of November 18. The week will conclude with an invited work-in-progress showing on Friday, November 22. The completed work will appear in an upcoming CAP UCLA season.  

All-Star Jazz Ensemble Artemis Make Carnegie Hall Debut On December 7

On Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 8:00 p.m., jazz supergroup Artemis make their Carnegie Hall debut in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. Each renowned for their outstanding solo work, these powerhouse musicians including Cécile McLorin Salvant (Vocals), Renee Rosnes (Music Director and Piano), Anat Cohen (Clarinet and Bass Clarinet), Melissa Aldana (Tenor Saxophone), Ingrid Jensen (Trumpet), Noriko Ueda (Bass), and Allison Miller (Drums) captivate audiences with bold new arrangements of classics by The Beatles to Thelonious Monk, as well as strikingly original compositions by the group's members.
