Sunday, September 20, 2020. In Providence, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is part of the Taco/The White Family Foundation Broadway Series.

The reimagined 50th Anniversary tour of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR will come to the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) from Tuesday, March 31 to Palm Sunday, April 5, 2020. In Providence, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is part of the Taco/The White Family Foundation Broadway Series.

Andrew Scott, Sharon D. Clarke, Juliet Stevenson, Sam Tutty and Hammed Animashaun have won top acting honours at the 2019 Critics Circle Theatre Awards, held today (11 February 2020) at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London's West End, hosted by Critics' Circle Drama Section Chairman Henry Hitchings.

In honor of the 50th Anniversary of Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice's groundbreaking rock opera, Playhouse Square and Work Light Productions have announced that the National Tour of Jesus Christ Superstar will be presented in live theatrical surround sound exclusively for Cleveland audiences. An additional 22 Northeast Ohio strings players will combine with the 11-piece ensemble of touring musicians to create an epic 33-piece orchestra fit for the birthplace of Rock & Roll.

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) (Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director Jeremy Blocker) announced today casting for Sanctuary City by Pulitzer Prize winner, NYTW Usual Suspect and former 2050 Fellow Martyna Majok (Cost of Living, queens), directed by Rebecca Frecknall (Summer and Smoke). Sanctuary City will begin previews on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher St, New York, NY 10014), and is set to open on Tuesday, March 24, for a limited run through Sunday, April 12, 2020.

The first production in this season will be Pulitzer Prize-winner Suzan-Lori Parks' modern epic IN THE BLOOD (17 April a?" 6 June 2020). Ellen McDougall will direct the first major UK production.

Would you believe that Jesus Christ Superstar has been a part of our musical theatre repertoire for 50 years now? That almost stops me in my tracks as I can recall singing choral arrangements of this production when I was but a budding and promising middle school student. Songs such as 'What's the Buzz', 'I Don't Know How to Love Him' and the title song have been part of the shaping of many a young singer.

When you hear of a musical turning 50 years old, many think of shows musicals from the golden age of Broadway. Now we are entering a new era were the blockbuster musicals, that have made Broadway what it is today, start celebrating their 50th anniversary. Des Moines Performing Arts is presenting the 50th-anniversary tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber's and Tim Rice's 'Jesus Christ Superstar' as part of the Willis Broadway Series. Hennepin Theatre Trust is proud to present the Minneapolis engagement of the 50th Anniversary North American Tour of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webbers's iconic musical JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR as part of the 2019-2020 Bank of America Broadway on Hennepin season. Regent's Park Open Air Theatre have today confirmed the lead creatives for Romeo and Juliet and Carousel, which play during their 2020 season. Creating Romeo and Juliet (27 June a?" 25 July), director Kimberley Sykes is joined by Naomi Dawson (designer), Shelley Maxwell (movement director), Lee Curran (lighting designer) and Giles Thomas (sound designer and composer). Joining the already announced director Timothy Sheader and choreographer Drew McOnie to create Carousel (31 July a?" 19 September) are Tom Scutt (set and costume designer), Tom Deering (musical supervisor), Aideen Malone (lighting designer) and Nick Lidster for Autograph (sound designer).

The 50th Anniversary tour of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR opened at the Orpheum Theatre in Omaha last night with a few surprises. Unlike the plethora of productions performed in the past of this Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice collaboration, this production mixes a rock concert with an aggressive dance troupe resulting in riotous sight and sound. If you weren't awake when you entered the theatre, you were by the first stinging notes of the electric guitar.

Due to public demand, the Young Vic today announces that the currently sold out production of Jackie Sibblies Drury's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Fairview will extend until Thursday 23 January 2020 for six additional performances. These additional performances are on sale now, Friday 6 December, with tickets priced from £10 - £43.

This is no ordinary play. Though it begins in a fairly conventional manner, setting up for a hearty family drama, there are little things to pick up on which tell you that something's not quite right a?' it's unsettling and you can't quite put your finger on it, but you know that the play has something up its sleeve. Playwright Jackie Sibblies Drury says in the programme, a?oeOh, to not spoil Fairview I can basically tell you nothing!a?? a?' that makes it a challenge to review, but having now witnessed it I have to endorse her statement. You must step into the unknown with this one.

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR has been around for half a century and is still going strong. The national tour heading to Omaha in December has a new style and I'm particularly eager to see it. I spoke with Tommy McDowell who plays Peter to see what he has to say.
