When Lin-Manuel Miranda’s epic masterpiece Hamilton was last in residence at Nashville’s Tennessee Performing Arts Center – where it is now ensconced for an as equally anticipated, if briefer, two-week run through August 7 – the world was a far different place than that in which we live today. Yet somehow, due in very large part to the Covid-19 pandemic, the January 6th insurrection at our nation’s Capitol, and the repercussions and reverberations of those two cataclysmic events that have followed in the intervening two-and-a-half years, Hamilton seems to be more resonant, its story more relevant and its presentation more heartrending and current than ever before.

Grounds For Sculpture announced that four new members have been elected to its Board of Trustees. Michelle J. Bajwa, Cataldo Doria, and Umesh Gaur joined the Board in December 2021, and Nick Pahade joined in June 2022.

Almanac Dance Circus Theatre has selected the first recipients of the BIPOC New Work Presentation Track. These works will be part of the second annual Cannonball, an independently run Fringe Hub of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. Running September 1-30, including a week of performances before the start of Fringe, Cannonball features more than 300 performances of over 65 shows,  spanning circus, dance, theater, film, and more.

Hamilton has announced that booking is extending at the Victoria Palace Theatre to 3 March 2023.  In addition, the first of new production images have been released.

To open their 50th Anniversary Season in Barboursville, Four County Players, in collaboration with Barboursville Vineyards, will present Shakespeare at the Ruins: As You Like It by Williams Shakespeare, directed by John Holdren, running July 15 through July 30 at the Historic Barboursville Ruins.

On Tuesday evening, I had the pleasure of seeing the Hamilton National Tour alongside a fully packed house of diehard fans, who bopped along in their seats with delight and delivered a well-deserved standing ovation. Joplin eventually would record the song in Los Angeles a few days before her October 1970 death. Released as a single a few months later, it went on to become her signature song and only number one hit. After her death, her J-45 was given to close friend and collaborator Bob Neuwirth, who taught her Bobby McGee and co-wrote with her Mercedes Benz.

Hamilton will officialy open in Hamburg, Germany on October 4th.  The full cast has been announced for the musical, which will be led by Benet Monteiro in the title role. Last week, the full company met the press and performed selections from the show.
