Samuel French, a Concord Theatricals company, has announced the winners of the 2019 Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival (OOB), the nation's premier short play competition.  

MCC Theater announced today the complete casting and creative team for the New York premiere of Seared by Pulitzer Prize finalist and two-time Emmy Award nominee Theresa Rebeck (Bernhardt/Hamlet), with direction by Tony Award nominee Moritz von Stuelpnagel (MCC's Hand to God).

Variety reports that upcoming spy thriller '355' will be released by Universal Pictures on January 14, 2021. Diane Kruger and Fan Bingbing also star.

PRIMARY STAGES is proud to announce that tickets are now on sale for the first two productions of its 35th Anniversary season. The season will kick off in the fall with the world premiere of On That Day in Amsterdam, written by Clarence Coo (Beautiful Province (Belle Province)-a?'Yale Drama Prize) and directed by Kareem Fahmy (3/Fifths). Performances begin at the Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce Street) on October 29, 2019, with opening night set for November 19, for a run through December 18, 2019.

Word for Word and Z Space stage an atmospheric production of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's legendary Rime of the Ancient Mariner  with press nights of Friday and Saturday September 20 & 21 at 8pm running through October 12 (Previews Sept 11-19).

Intimacy Director Claire Warden is featured in this monthly episode of THEATER: All the Moving Parts, hosted by veteran journalist, Patrick Pacheco. She is one of the leaders in the relatively new and important role of intimacy director and coordinator in theater, movies and TV. Warden recently made history as the first intimacy director on Broadway with Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune and will shortly be working on the Broadway productions of Slave Play and Linda Vista. 

Clutch Productions, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for emerging female artists in theatre and film, today announced that it will present THE WORTH OF WATER, a new play written by Tira Palmquist and directed by Mêlisa Annis Friday, October 4th through Sunday, October 20th, Off-Broadway at HERE, 145 6thAvenue, (on Dominick St., one block south of Spring St.). This is the second commission of a new, full-length play from blank page to its world premiere on a New York stage by Clutch, the inaugural commission being the world premiere of Every Good Girl Deserves Fun by Heidi Armbruster (upcoming Dairyland at Playmakers Rep, Mrs. Christie at Dorset Theatre Festival).

Samuel French's Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival (OOB), the nation's premier short play competition, is excited to announce that Lauren Yee (Cambodian Rock Band, The Great Leap, The Hatmaker's Wife) is this year's honorary festival playwright. Additionally, the distinguished lineup of judges will include Masi Asare, Eleanor Burgess, Clarence Coo, Vichet Chum, Chris Giordano, Keli Goff, David L. Kimple, Margaret Ledford, Emily Morse, Salem Tsegaye, Miriam Weiner and Alexis Williams.

Loose Knit/by Theresa Rebeck/directed by L Flint Esquerra/Group Rep, NoHo/through September 8 Will the play be like Steel Magnolias? I queried. But...there are two male actors onboard. Well, as it turns out Loose Knit provides far more entertainment than I expected and presents a myriad of thought provoking ideas, not only about dating, but about the politics of America and how it works or does not. Currently onstage at Grou Rep, Loose Knit should be a great big winner, because of the astute writing, the dynamite seven member ensemble and superior direction from L Flint Esquerra. Five women meet regularly at Gina's (Lisa McGee Mann) apartment to knit...actually, some to knit, some to talk. The Group Rep presents LOOSE KNIT, written by Theresa Rebeck, directed by L. Flint Esquerra, produced by Katelyn Ann Clark, a seductively smart, dark comedy about women who, once a week gather to knit. As the sweaters pile up, their lives fall apart. August 2 - September 8, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm, Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm, at the Lonny Chapman Theatre in North Hollywood.

Director L Flint Esquerra has directed two Tennessee Williams' plays A Streetcar Named Desire and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at Group Rep Theatre in NoHo in the last few years to great acclaim. He is currently directing their next production Loose Knit set to open August 2. In our conversation Esquerra talks about the play in detail. Did you direct Loose Knit before? I understand that this is a revival production. No, have never directed this show before. I think 'revival' may be a bit of a misnomer, in the sense that, yes, it was done somewhere else sometime before and now it's being done here, but no, none of our cast or crew has ever worked on it prior. Dorset Theatre Festival, under the leadership of Artistic Director Dina Janis and Producing Director Will Rucker, will begin performances of Mrs. Christie, the second World Premiere production of the 42nd Season, on August 1, 2019. The play is written by Heidi Armbruster and has been developed in the Festival's acclaimed Women Artists Writing Group since 2016.

San Francisco Playhouse is thrilled to announce that their production of Dipika Guha's Yoga Play will move to Laguna Playhouse this fall. San Francisco Playhouse Artistic Director Bill English will direct, with most of the original Playhouse cast reprising their roles in the Southern California production.
