Peter Frampton to Receive Chairman's Award at Music Biz 2019

The Music Business Association (Music Biz) will honor GRAMMY Award-winning musician, singer and songwriter Peter Frampton with the Chairman's Award for Sustained Creative Achievement at the Music Biz 2019 Awards & Hall of Fame Dinner sponsored by BuzzAngle Music, City National Bank, Cracker Barrel, Jammber, and TiVo. The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, May 7 at 7:30 pm as part of the Music Biz 2019 Conference set for May 5-8 at the luxurious JW Marriott in downtown Nashville.

Complete Schedule, Artistic Personnel And Activities Announced For Machito & The Impact Of The Afro-Cubans At 80

Modeled after the highly acclaimed retrospective of Tito Puente in 2017, the Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture will honor the late iconic singer and bandleader Francisco Machito Grillo (1908-1984) and his Orchestra (the Afro-Cubans) in a 3-day celebration May 2-4 on the campus of Hostos Community College, 450 Grand Concourse (at 149th Street), in the Bronx. Machito & the Impact of the Afro-Cubans at 80 examines the Orchestra's influence on a variety of Latin musical styles, including Latin jazz that affected the music of Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Stan Kenton and others.

The Apollo Theater will bring the New York premiere of TWISTED MELODIES, an intimate one-man production inspired by the life, artistry, and struggles of 1970s soul singer and composer Donny Hathaway, to its iconic stage, 45 years after Hathaway himself last performed on it.

Carnegie Hall Presents MY CITY, MY SONG Family Concerts On May 11

On Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., three vibrant New York City-based artists will perform in Zankel Hall as part of My City, My Song, an interactive Family Concert celebrating music from around the world. The concert features jazz standards performed by vocalist Brianna Thomas, the percussive rhythms of Puerto Rican bomba and plena music from father-daughter duo Juan Gutierrez and Julia Gutierrez-Rivera (with fellow musicians from Los Pleneros de la 21), and samba from Brazil's Carnival with singer-songwriter Fabiana Masili. Free pre-concert activities are offered one hour prior to each performance, preparing parents and children to sing and dance along with the artists.

Cast Announced for National Black Theatre & Apollo Theater Concert Reading Of WiLDFLOWER

The Apollo Theater Salon Series in partnership with Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre (NBT) will present WiLDFLOWER, the staged concert reading of the full-length musical with book, music and lyrics by Jason Michael Webb and Lelund Durond Thompson. The performance, directed by Logan Vaughn and starring Broadway stars Tshidi Manye (The Lion King) and Quentin Earl Darrington (Once on this Island), will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26, and Saturday, April 27, on the Apollo Theater Soundstage.
